Mitt Romney's campaign announced Tuesday that it has hired staff for the presumptive Republican nominee's future running mate, further fueling speculation that the GOP hopeful will announce his pick soon.
Randy Bumps, the former political director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, will serve as the director of operations for the eventual vice presidential pick. And Kevin Sheridan, a former spokesman for the Republican National Committee, will serve as the running mate's communications director.
Im proud to add Randy and Kevin to our growing team, said campaign manager Matt Rhoades in a statement. They both have enjoyed long and distinguished careers in our party. Their work will be vital as we move forward in the campaign to defeat President Obama and elect Mitt Romney.
The announcement comes as speculation mounts that Romney will announce his pick soon. Doing so could help the Republican challenger put to bed the Obama campaign's tough attacks on his tenure at Bain Capital, and provide an important surrogate to remain in the United States during Romney's international trip later this month.

Are any of them former Hillary staffers??
If that’s true, then he’s a real patriot.
He said it on national TV, during the oil mess. It's too bad, because I'd love to be able to vote for him.
I hopes its Ryan or Jindal but the conspiracy theorist in me still bets on...Hucakabee
Pawlenty was so naive about Minnesota Nice that he let Al Franken snatch away Coleman’s Senate seat. Or was that a clean vote count?
My gut says Rubio
I agree with your gut. I believe it's been Rubio for a while. Looks like we may find out sooner than later.
Kelly Ayotte- Who?
Chris Christie- ROTFL!
Luis Fortuno- A Puerto Rican who can’t even vote in US elections?
Bobby Jindal- Boring!
Susana Martinez- Doesn’t want the job.
Bob McConnell- Possible. May be too conservative for Romney.
Tim Pawlenty- BORING! A moderate Democrat.
Rob Portman- Might be a good choice.
Condoleeza Rice- Just say no.
Marco Rubio- Too young and untested.
Paul Ryan- Probably too conservative for Romney.
And the candidate had better know how to spell “potatoe”!
Randy Bumps? That sounds like the name of a porn star.
“Rob Portman- Still a top prospect, is well-liked in Ohio, has expxerience, very good debater. But is damaged by his ties to George W. Bush & family.”
I heard Rob Portman on the Medved show today. He sounded absolutely brilliant.
He was Bush’s budget director when Bush made progress on reducing spending supposedly.
Having someone with experience managing the budget would be desirable. And it would help us win Ohio.
He is also ultra wealthy like Romney which would mean two super rich guys on the ticket.
I wonder if Jindal will be the pick? He is an experienced, popular governor, not tied to Bush, from a humble, immigrant family background and a proven conservative.
Jindal also very bright and a person of “color”.
A VP from the south may be appealing to voters down there who don’t like politicians from Massachusetts.
Why hire an expensive staff for this? I’m sure the party bosses already dictated to Mitt who that person is going to be.
Maybe it’s for the drama.
I read it that way too at first, but the staff isn’t there to help Romney make a selection but to assist whomever Romney picks (or already has picked).
I'm also thinking it could be Sarah.
Romney brings in the RINOs, Sarah brings in the real conservatives. It's a cruel-world, realpolitick solution, but it would work. And after all, look who's running for re-election.
Aw hell, I thought she was running for president, too. So like everyone else, I'll just wait and see what happens.
You are the first person I’ve heard mention him.
I have a bridge to sell you if you believe for one second Romney would even consider picking Palin.
The word (which of course could be pure BS) is that the shortlist is Portman, Pawlenty, and Jindal and that the pick could come as soon as Friday.
The governor of Virginia is Bob McDonnell, not McConnell.
Crip just wants to get Snyder out of Michigan. ;-)
