“As much as we want to sit still and admire the present forever—the era of magic and wonder with Obama as our leader—time marches on. First and foremost we face the harsh threat of losing Obama in the 2012 election. How unjust is that, having found this perfect leader, we would subject him to the indignity of justifying himself through yet another election? I sincerely wish we could just forego the election and not give the racists and haters of this nation an option, but we can’t because of the Constitution (why is it always getting in the way of progress?). I feel like sending a letter to Obama right now apologizing for the travesty he will be subjected to.
But hopefully Obama will soldier on and decide we are still worthy of his leadership. And he will win reelection because of his secret weapon: Hope. Republicans had assumed that Obama would fix everything during his first term and thus leave people with no more need for hope, but Obama was smarter than that. He still left some problems—so many problems—so that people will still have the desperate hope that they will be solved, Yes, he kept hope alive for us. And so people will turn to Obama again, full of hope that he will solve all that ails them. This time for real.”
