SPALDING COUNTY, Ga.
The Better Business Bureau and Georgia Power are warning people about a scam, promising that President Barack Obama will pay utility bills with a new federal grant.
Channel 2's Tony Thomas spoke to a Griffin woman who fell for the scam. Loneiyce Washington even introduced her friends to what she thought was a legitimate offer. They ended up getting scammed, too.
Washington said she thought Obama passed a law that provided credits to help her and others pay their utility bills, she told Thomas.
Investigators said the scammers ask for people's Social Security numbers and bank routing numbers. The victims are then given a fake routing number to a bank and the money routed will go toward paying their utility bills. Washington thought after the money had been routed, her bills had been paid. But that wasn't the case and she said she didn't have to give out her private information.
"I didn't think it was a scam because they are not asking for personal information," Washington said.
After falling for the scheme, she called her friends to tell them about it.
"I'm just apologizing about it. I hope they understand it was a mistake," Washington said.
Georgia Power also hopes their customers did not make the same mistake, according to a recording.
Georgia Power warns customers to hang up and call the phone number on their utility bill if they receive a call from someone claiming to be their utility company.
Hate to break it to her, but her SSN and bank routing numbers are as personal as it gets.
What the hell does she think social security and bank routing numbers are? Hellllloooo!
Some of Holders people? Would she look like Obozo’s sister?
No such thing as free. Such idiots deserve to be scammed. If she did her own research before handing over her dough, she would have known better.
But no, she decided to hand over her cash, invite her friends to do the same, willy nilly, and got screwed.
I have no sympathy.
Speaking of scams...that Social Security ponzi scheme will prove to be the mother-of-scams. Funny that the government can always accuse others of cheating people out of their money, when they are the biggest cheats and liars of all.
“Some of Holders people?”
Loneiyce Washington.
You’re kidding, right?
Heh.
The local TV station warned about this scam a couple of weeks ago.

Bill Payment Scam Alert
There is a bill payment scam affecting customers that is actively spreading through social media and word-of-mouth. We believe this is part of a nationwide phishing scam. Scammers are telling customers that a third party, in most cases the Federal Government or President Obama, will pay their utility bill in exchange for their personal information such as social security numbers and personal banking information.
While customers may have received information from friends or the internet instead of the scammers themselves, we urge all customers to never use banking information that is not their own. Unauthorized use of account information is illegal and any payment applied to utility bills will be reversed. Also, customers who use unauthorized banking information to pay their FPL bill will receive a letter stating their payment was invalid and will still be required to pay their bills.
We have notified authorities including: the State Attorney Generals Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the U.S. Secret Service Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force. If you think you may have been a victim of this scam, you may also contact the authorities listed below:

Dumbed down and brainwashed by the obama socialist democrat regime. I bet she still thinks the foreigner is going to pay her mortgage and car payment. After all, she voted for him because he is black.

I'm getting more and more aggravated by the day.
TANSTAAFL
I just moved from there (lived there 12 years and in the south Atlanta area my whole life) and I am NOT surprised the woman was absolutely this stupid.
The sad part is the mentality that would believe this is even possible.
As is usually the case, scammees are just unsuccessful scammers.
The "victims" wanted free stuff and were entrapped by their own greed.
My heart just breaks for stupid people trying to game the system - NOT!
Revoke her voter registration immediately! Anyone that falls for this crap is to ignorant to vote and they prove that they don’t have the intestinal fortitude to responsibly protect the Republic.
