Supporting gay rights is good for business
SALON ^ | July 4 2012 | Lauren Kelley

. . . The risk-reward equation for corporate advocacy has changed over time, says Bob Witeck, president of the District-based Witeck Communications, which specializes in the gay and lesbian consumer markets.

What’s the worst thing that could happen to Kraft? A denouncement from a special-interest group like One Million Moms….

What’s the best thing?

An army of people sends your product around the Internet, and your century-old brand suddenly seems cutting-edge.

Indeed, Oreo’s “gay cookie” stunt got a lot of people who might not ordinarily be inclined to shill for one of the largest food corporations in the world to declare its love for Kraft products all over social media.

Capitalistic motivations aside, it is good news that Oreo put out that rainbow cookie image; it reinforces the fact that LGBTQ acceptance is now something close to mainstream. And it shows what little tolerance our society now has for outright bigotry.

This is a lesson the Salvation Army is learning, rather painfully, this summer. The international charity made waves earlier this month when one of its employees, Major Andrew Craibe, went on an Australian radio show and was questioned by one of the show’s gay hosts, Serena Ryan:. . . the Salvation Army is learning the lesson that Kraft obviously already knows: the tide is turning, and you have to turn with it to keep making a buck.

“What does it profit a man to gain the world, and lose his soul?”

Right. In a dark era, morality is for the few.

Since they hire homosexual activists to run their public relations and advertising departments.

Yeah, right. I guess that’s why J.C. Penney’s profits have fallen so sharply in recent months.

This is il-informed blather. Many companies have made this mistake, and it always ends badly. Most people aren’t “homophobic,” but they’re sick of this garbage. They quietly stop by products. In large numbers. It’s not a formal boycot, but that just means once the ball is rolling, there’s no organization to appease. Watch the next quarters’ numbers - they will be BAD.

The article mentions J.C. Penny and Ellen Degeneres but fails to mention J.C. Penny’s 18.9% drop in same store sales in the First Quarter.

Yup. Jaguar also targetted the gay community - almost sunk the brand. There are numerous other examples.

“Larry Brinkin, San Francisco gay rights icon, arrested on child porn charges: police

Gay rights icon Larry Brinkin, 66, has been arrested on charges of child pornography, according to San Francisco police, for allegedly exchanging emails that contained images of children as young as a year old.”

One Million Moms = one million households with one or more kids = cookies.

One million homosexuals = one million mostly childless households = death of the cookie monster.

“Indeed, Oreo’s “gay cookie” stunt got a lot of people who might not ordinarily be inclined to shill for one of the largest food corporations in the world to declare its love for Kraft products all over social media.”

Shilling for the politicization of a product doesn’t necessarily translate to sales. I’ve been waiting for Kraft to trumpet its huge success with this stunt but have yet to see it.

If internet exposure was all that they claim... voting turn out is going to be off the charts this election cycle!

The tide hasn’t been turning for me. I believe I remain unaffected by the slow avalanche of immorality that has been with us for some time.

I read the article with the expectations that hard numbers over a period of time would be included. The article is just a fantasy piece based on overemotional hype and “hipness” towards paraphilia.

I am truly disappointed in ‘Salon’. I expected a scholarly article that is the trademark of that miraculous publication and ideology./s 1^

Sorry, but I don’t *buy* this nonsense. Companies are more likely to get sales by not going along with immorality.

But, if the sodomy lobby keeps repeating something, it becomes true, you see?

These DORRITOS gay Super Bowl commercials from last year never made it on air. But I wonder if they will air them at some point as “gays are so good for business”:

“The article is just a fantasy piece based on overemotional hype and “hipness” towards paraphilia.”

Yep. That is the crux of the whole thing. Thus, in time it will collapse because its foundations are not real.

In other words, the Salvation Army is learning the lesson that Kraft obviously already knows: the tide is turning, and you have to turn with it to keep making a buck.

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Ro 12:2). That's enough for me!

Excellent for you!

I think may of us remain so.

My point was that the tide will turn at some point for the cultural landscape in general: And that much of what we see now will decline and even reverse.
