Good alternatives to Google:
Yahoo!
http://images.search.yahoo.com/
Advantages: Good quality, tailorable page (My Yahoo), with lots of options. Good image search.
Devilfinder:
http://images.devilfinder.com/
Advantages: Not tracked, no cookies, no search data kept on users. Good image search with a safe search option.
Factbites:
Advantages: Good for data search, as it eliminates vast amounts of web fluff pages. Searches are not listed by popularity, but by quality of data.
Yippy (despite the name, good for complicated searches)
Advantages: In addition to the primary search, it opens a left frame that orders major subject areas of a complex search, to help you narrow down what you are looking for.
Dogpile:
A search engine aggregator that only posts universal results found on several other search engines, eliminating advertised sites moved to the head of one of them, as well as other fluff.
Great posting, thanks.

I think dogpile donates a part of their revenues to animal shelters.
Dogpile is a joke. They index a tiny fraction of the web, and their relevance (quality of their search results) sucks.
The only real alternative to Google is Bing. Google is the 800 pound gorilla in this space. If you want an alternative to Google to stay around, I highly recommend that you use Bing.
I’ve started using duckduckgo. I don’t know what(if any) politics they support but I find it good for just being a search engine.
Another search engine. This one gives money to your associated charity.
