Though Americas Keystone Pipeline is delayed, the Canadians are moving forward on their side of the border and have an immediate need for tens of thousands of workers, said Ted Daywalt, founder and CEO of VetJobs. There is an anticipated shortage of 114,000 workers in the Alberta area

How about something better than wiki.answers.com as a source?
Canada http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1082.html
Answer is NO you do not need a passport.
Answer is, you do need a passport or some other authorized ID!
Nothing about a military ID, is there.
per the website-”There are NO charges to the “United States Military Family” for using VetJobs”
Many professional associations have a similar employment search tab available to their members, with a similar payment structure for employer adds.
Are you claiming the vetjobs website is not affiliated with the VFW?
It is not exporting jobs as the jobs already exist in Alberta. Over the next ten years they anticipate a shortage of 114,000 workers. We are exporting labor who will be working infrastructure and industry jobs in Alberta, Canada. Why? because Obama killed the Keystone Pipeline project in the US which could have been the largest jobs generating project of the last 50 years. Obviously Obama would rather have Americans dependent on a government check rather than actually working and improving their lives!
Is the VFW going to help push the paperwork or help pay for getting a passport?
No, the VFW is advertising the openings through VetJobs (www.vetjobs.com), a military job board in which they own 10%. VetJobs purpose over the last 13 years has been to get veterans, their spouses and children qulaity employment.
Do vets even need a passport to get hired to begin with?
You can visit Canada on your drivers license or a military ID card, but to stay and work I believe you need a visa.
Ted Daywalt
You are correct. The Canadians are critically short of skilled labor so they will take any and all applicants who are qualified for the jobs.
We had lined up a lot of jobs for veterans to work on the Kestone Pipeline (like over 8,000 jobs!). I chased down on the Canadian jobs after Obama killed the Keystone Pipeline. Since he does not want to develop US energy and let our veterans have good jobs, I went to where energy is being developed to find good jobs for our veterans.

Don’t worry, if people get hungry enough, they’ll figure out the exceedlingly complex process of getting a passport, and finding a place to sleep when they get there. Thanks for the post. If nothing more it is a nice illustration of the jobs that should be available here.
But all this whining reminds me of Aesops fable about the fox and the grapes. Can’t get them,,so decides they are sour anyway.
Don’t sweat it sonny.
You wouldn’t last a day in the oil patch anyway.
Are Molson Goldens part of the equation?
What are the requirements for a job in the petroleum industry in Texas or North Dakota?
You are correct. The Canadians are critically short of skilled labor so they will take any and all applicants who are qualified for the jobs.
Is that due in part to their liberal Marijuana laws?
Maybe official unemployment numbers.
Sounds like an adventure, good training and a stake in life for our Vets. Thank you for doing this.

Canada Ping.
CANADA WANTS U.S.VETERANS FOR PIPELINE WORK
VFW-backed VetJobs now posting thousands of new vacancies

Man, you got that right.
They are some of the scrappiest (in a good way) toughest folks I’ve ever seen.
The problem is many of these jobs have extensive prerequisites, it doesn’t seem like there’s many that would work for someone with a basic military background or limited construction experience.
In the numbers they are mentioning as being needed, there must be some entry level positions available. For anybody without work, willing to do physical labor and willing to learn this could be a good entry into skill sets that could be useful when this type of work moves south.
Dad never had a passport when he jumped off the landing craft onto the Beaches of the South Pacific in WW2
