Syrian artillery pounded a northwestern town on Wednesday and areas near the ghost city of Douma, where residents recovered mutilated corpses after a rampage by militiamen loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, activists said.
They said at least 11 people, including a six-year-old girl and an elderly man, were killed by shelling in the towns of Misraba and Rihan near Douma, and three more were shot dead.
Video shot by opposition activists in Douma, 15 km (10 miles) north of Damascus, showed gory scenes in homes they said had been overrun by pro-Assad militiamen after army shelling forced rebel fighters to retreat at the weekend.
The state news agency SANA made no mention of killings in the devastated city, but said utilities had been damaged and that many residents had fled to escape "terrorism".
"These are pieces of our children we're pulling out of dumpsters ... We found these body parts and we are still looking for more. These are burned human body parts," said a man picking through an overturned garbage bin in one of the video clips.

We know that the rebels will kill innocents in order to blame "atrocities" on their government. We know their government will kill to get the rebels. This tragedy doesn't strike me as a reason to get involved militarily, diplomatically, or covertly. All sides are barbarians. We don't have a dog in this fight.

In fact there is a good dog in a fight. A secular Baatist regimes proved to be the most responsible at ME, after Israel. No free republic is possible there right now and in a 500 years to come. All that is known is that the Assad dynasty has been murdering Syrians for sixteen months at an average rate exceeding one thousand a month, and blaming the killings on foreign countries, foreign mercenaries, etc.
I don’t, that apparently is the job of the reporters of this story. The palestinian ‘bomb’ women comes to mind. As does the green helmeted guy at every scene in Lebanon where those crazy Jews were ‘killing’ civilians.
Hizbollah? The “leader” of the Hizzies has said little, and some of it contradictory. Iran sent thugs to Syria to prop up Assad, since Syria’s the main pipeline of Iranian missiles and such to them, but Iran’s teetering on the brink of a foreign policy implosion, which is why they acted quickly.
Hamas has pulled its HQ out of Syria, I think they’re based in Egypt now.

This morning I received the following tweet: “@alextomo I read your piece “set up to be shot in no mans land”, I can relate as I had that same experience in Al Zabadani during our tour.” That was from Nawaf al Thani, who is a human rights lawyer and a member of the Arab League Observer mission to Syria earlier this year.
This is a fight to the death. The Alawites know that they will be decimated if they give up power to the Sunni. So Assad will crush the uprising that’ll do Stalin proud. His father did the same thing decades ago but back then it was a picnic compared to what’s happening right now in Syria.
Yep, taking out Saddam proved to be a huge mistake. But hey, hindsight is 20/20.
I wonder how many of these “victims” were dancing in the streets, celebrating 9/11?
We also know that anti government terrorist groups are committing some of he atrocities.
