Colorado Springs Residents Return Home to Destruction, Looters (24 homes looted)

Colorado Springs residents, many of whom have been away from their homes for several days, were allowed to return to what remained of their houses on Sunday.

The wildfires, which are being called the most destructive of its kind in Colorado history, forced thousands of people to evacuate the city as it blazed a 17,659 acre trail across the state. At last count, 346 homes and communities were laid to waste as a result.

Sadly, sifting through the rubble might be the least of their concerns at the moment. Bears and other wildlife have been spotted in these deserted neighborhoods searching for food.

Unfortunately, opportunistic burglars have been seen in the area as well; two houses were recently looted, bringing the total number to 24.

In order to keep these bandits off the streets and out of people’s homes, the National Guard has been brought in to police the wreckage.

Although some people were allowed to remain in their homes — a large number of which are still without power — the vast majority of folks were only permitted to view their property in order to survey the damage. Once visiting hours were over, they were asked to leave the premises.

Just heard on the radio, most of the homes being looted are where the residents evacuated and most of these homes were not burned in the fires and were left untouched, except for the looters.

Seems everyone left, and the looters went in...

One of the reasons I would likely not evacuate, and stay to protect my property from fire or whatever. Once you evacuate, you're not going back unless told to. I'd rather take my chances, depending on the circumstances.

A lot of Obama supporters have moved up to Colorado lately.

The authorities told them to leave, probably forced them to do so. A lesson should be learned here.

>My cousin lost everything in this fire.

He has his life, and none of his loved ones died, right?

It’s easy to say that but the people who have died in these fires are those who did not evacuate. I’m in Denver and am not threatened but the photos I saw from friends in Colorado Springs were terrifying. There is no way I would have stayed with that big of a fire coming towards me.

Just those Illegals, doing the jobs Americans won't do.

Probably they came here as "yewts", and The Messiah just granted them Amnesty, so they feel they "belong here".

I don't believe they can force you to evacuate.

Could I get a link to that?

A friend in the area told me that last week, Wednesday I think it was, El Paso County Sheriff's deputies were running speed traps. This during the height of the evacuations and turmoil.

So, maybe, just maybe if they had put those officers on another assignment... Say, patrolling evacuated portions of the County... Maybe some of those homes wouldn't have been looted? I don't blame the deputies - going where told. If I lived there though, I'd think long and hard about voting that Sheriff out at the next opportunity. Seems his priorities are a bit off.

Sorta makes you wonder ... if all the roads are blocked off with checkpoints and no one allowed in, how did the looters get the stuff out? Back of a police van, fire support truck, FEMA van, ?????

Why are there so many trashy, disgusting people in this country who will use misery and disaster to make life more difficult for the innocent?

Years ago, when we had a flood over this way, some National Guard-types were suspected of looting.

Didn’t the ‘left behinds’ in New Orleans finally admit that a portion of them weren’t going to leave because of the looters and some of them admitted that when the areas were evacuated, they took advantage and looted?

The above story mentioned that bears were roaming the areas looking for food.

A PERFECT STORM:

The bears and looters meet face to face.

Give me the bears for 1000 Alex....

Don’t know.

It’s another reason why I’d likely take my chances, and not evacuate.

There have been countless stories where those who did not evacuate, were able to save their homes because the firefighters were too thinly spread.

Among others, I saw a guy several years via chopper video, who was able to douse/beat down a small fire under his roof eve before it was able to engulf his home. He saved his home and it was all on video
