Chickensoup, I might as well start my soap box now. You, Chickensoup are smarter than the average bear. It is insanely stupid to get a divorce as I am guessing you figured out. The court treats a family splitting up the same as a business, which it is not, and causes untold damage. Also, as joint tenants with right of survivorship, the way married couples hold property, creditors have to have judgments against both of you to levy against the property you hold. If you run up bills separately, creditors can’t get to your joint property if you default. Don’t default, it’s bad for your character and sets a terrible example. Divorce is a stupid idea. Wait it out like you are, the kids don’t mind in fact prefer it. The ONLY people that benefit from a divorce are the divorce lawyers. They will size up your assets and debts and then you will be in trouble. If you have to divorce (which you don’t) divide everything yourselves, then get the thing done. Why bother to divorce? So you can enter into an economic partnership with someone new? Stupid. Just stay married.
