Medicaid expansion could boost health care sector
Tallahassee Herald Tribune ^ | 29 June 2012 | Lloyd Dunkelberger

If Florida proceeds with the program as envisioned under the law, it could provide a boost to the state’s economy.

Florida could gain about $2 billion a year in federal money for health care if it expands the Medicaid rolls as called for in the law. That does not include any added state spending for doctors, hospitals, home care and other segments of the state’s already sizable health care industry.

Health care is a significant component in Florida’s economy.

Of the state’s 7.4 million non-agricultural workers, 12 percent, or 855,400, are in the health care field. From May 2011 to May 2012, the number of health care jobs has increased 2 percent, triple the rate of all non-agricultural job creation.

Advocates say Florida will be missing a prime opportunity to help some of its sickest and poorest residents, while at the same time boosting a health care industry that can provide jobs in a state with an 8.6 percent unemployment rate.

“It’s unfortunate that they probably won’t take advantage of it,” said Louis St. Petery, a pediatric cardiologist in Tallahassee who has pushed to improve the Medicaid program.

All of the money that you will be unable to earn will go to the government. That’s what “We the People”, who are supposed to hold so much power, are apparently in favor of...or the marxist takeover is almost complete.

Hope they like getting paid in Skittles. The States are broke. The Fed Gov is soon to be $20 Trillion in debt. The state Medicaid caseloads will explode in any state that expands it to accommodate Obamacare.

They won’t be able to pay their health care workers, and frankly, without repeal a lot of would-be doctors, won’t be.

Such bull poop. The poor and the elderly will be the first denied service because of their limited value to The State.

Anybody who thinks otherwise is just not living in "Realville".

people are missing the big deal....these jobs will be more desk, paper pushing jobs...the drs and nurses who actually do the work will work harder, longer, under more constraints....believe me, its bad now...sometimes it takes 3 or 4 different reviewers to get somebody from the hospital into a medicaid nursing home bed..

“The poor and the elderly will be the first denied service because of their limited value to The State.’”

Everything has become political. There will most definitely be funding for drug rehab programs, and ‘family planning’, and ‘alternative’ health care, but not for other things. Obama is particularly hard for me to take, because he grew up privileged. I didn't, but because I studied medicine I am part of the problem. He, on the other hand, is a protected species, and can do anything and still be embraced by the entirety of popular culture.

It comes from the Federal Money Tree, so it would be stupid for a State to turn down all that free money.

Gee, where does this dumbass author think the state is going to get the money to join OBozoCare's Medicaid expansion?!? Duhhh, by taxing all the Floridians in sight!

And a corrupt solar company?

And ‘green jobs’ that produce nothing but paper work?

Dems - what can we say?

Free money; the state gets $2 Billion and the citizens have to pay how much more in taxes? Think of the lines the Medicare retirees will have to wait in? There isn’t enough money if the states don’t cooperate.
