Since the news that Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the majority in ruling that the Obamacare individual mandate is constitutional, there has been tremendous debate and analysis about the opinion that he offered. Liberals predictability praised the ruling and gloated that they knew it was constitutional all along - even though most of them never admitted or even implied that the mandate was tantamount to a tax (which is what Roberts determined). Conservatives praised other parts of the opinion which basically limited significantly the use of the commerce clause in any future legislation, and it also helps them promote their narrative that Barack Obama is just another tax-and-spend liberal.
Since the ruling, most polls show that most Americans still disapprove of Obamacare and of the Supreme Court's ruling about it. Future polls about Obamacare are likely to show even higher numbers of those disapproving of the act and the ruling. That is because the opinion provided by Roberts sets the stage for frequent and massive tax increases on any number of issues down the road.

Spend and tax has always been a slippery slope.
Roberts has rendered the commerce claus meaningless. Now, as long as any law forcing the purchase of any product contains a tax (penalty) selectively applied only to those who choose not to comply then it is not a “mandate”
A mandate without a financial enforcement mechanism is unconstitutional, but if the government uses a “tax” to force complaince then it becomes constitutional.
If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.
The Roberts ruling threw us off a cliff above a void that goes straight to Hell.
A slippery slope would be a luxury. We have no such luxury.
The Roberts ruling recognized our nation is hurting.
We need to STOP sending our manufacturing elsewhere. We need to bring back our manufacturing we have exported.
We need to work more for and with each other.
Now.
First thing we need to do is get conservatives to stop crying and get back into the fight.
We need Patton to slap the crap out of the shell shock crowd.
Call anything a tax, no matter what it is, and it just became constitutional. How cool is that?!?!
The Robert opinion was incoherent.
Our Republic is gone.
What do you want from me?
Our Republic is gone.
We sold it for some good feelings. :(

the founding principles of our nation, carefully protected by our constitution have been destroyed by 4 clowns and an idiot..and a congress full of ideological liars and thieves.
yes the people elected those who appointed the clown posse, but they should not have exceeded their oath and responsibilities...
i still see a major flaw in that kagan did not recuse herself and roberts did not make her as if he planned on having the spotlight...hmmm

We just went over the cliff.
There is no more slope.
I don’t believe they’ll stop until they get some form of carbon tax. That of course isn’t something noble, it’s about complete control of human activity. Now that the gov’t has access to your bank account through forced health care “tax”, would it be a big jump to think the gov’t/irs couldn’t have direct access to your money in a carbon tax scheme?
Once the dollar is done away with and/or we go cashless it could look like some sci-fi movie where we’re some sort of fleshbots completely controlled by a central bank...I mean gov’t. ;)
“No level of activity or inactivity is safe from taxation now. And what makes it even scarier is the fact that taxing provisions can be included in budget reconciliation packages, which means they will need only a simple majority vote in the Senate to pass rather than a 60-vote super-majority.”
True, except that Congress would have to go through traditional means of passing that legislation and then try to get re-elected.
Even so, as it stands, legislation that couldn’t possibly have passed public scrutiny or unpopularity OR Constitutional muster was converted into law. Thanks for (taking) the liberty, Mr. Roberts!
The slippery slope is above us.
We are a society of takers that enslaves the productive.
Only a true cataclysm, that forces the lazy to work or die, will chane things. And then perhaps we can revisit the Contitution of 1786 and follow it.
