WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. upheld the heart of President Obama's healthcare law Thursday, ruling that the government may impose tax penalties on those who do not have health insurance. The decision came on a 5-4 vote, with the court's four liberal justices joining with the chief justice.

What's that got to do with who appointed him and how he ended up ruling when he adjudicated?

What does Souter have to do with Obamacare -- which is what we are discussing in this thread?

I’m sure a few state’s attorney’s general’s will now find the stones to make “Justice” Roberts get out his pen and provide the Court’s Constitutional definition of just exactly what a tax is....and perhaps he can also find enough gray matter to explain to us why this “special tax” is NOT a “head tax” or a “poll tax”

“A poll tax (head tax or capitation tax, per U.S. English usage) is a tax of a portioned, fixed amount applied to an individual in accordance with the census (as opposed to a percentage of income). When a corvée is commuted for cash payment, in effect it becomes a poll tax (and vice versa, if a poll tax obligation can be worked off). Head taxes were important sources of revenue for many governments from ancient times until the 19th century. There have been several famous (and infamous) cases of head taxes in history, notably a tax formerly required for voting in parts of the United States that was often designed to disenfranchise poor people, including African Americans, Native Americans, and white people of non-English descent (e.g., the Irish). In the United Kingdom, poll taxes were levied by the governments of John of Gaunt in the 14th C., Charles II in the 17th and Margaret Thatcher in the 20th century.

The word poll is an English word that once meant “head” - and still does, in some specialised contexts - hence the name poll tax for a per-person tax”

Go back to my original comment you responded to and read it again. Are you really that stupid?

I have more or less gone Galt, or off the grid, since about '89. If I have to I will donate my house to a non-profit org with the understanding that I can live in it until I die. That quid pro quo won't be official of course. Let the FedMob try to confiscate it from a religious org in the name of 0bamaCare.

As a "poor" person another option is to sign up for the "free" 0bamaCare and never follow through by taking any benefits. Anything to tie the system in knots. No IRS "tax" on me and minimal cost to the producers who will be paying for it all.

The other side of that coin is to Cloward & Piven it. That is, use the system as much as possible to bankrupt it. The moochers will be doing that anyway in short order. For those of us who hate this whole socialist scheme our best bet may be to pile on with the moochers and help send the costs through the roof in the first couple of years. Cost projections have already doubled since the bill was signed and it hasn't even gone into effect yet.

Whenever a liberal is losing an argument, they trot out the personal attacks. Your original comments were off-point at best. Just let it all go now. Good bye.
