Hummm....what was post #7?
Great advice Cindy Sue! *Hugs*
I’m gettin there slowly. I will be getting my truck on the 3rd & the camper early in Aug. With me leaving here in Mi. early in Sept. I just confirmed the order for the satt. tv/internet/phone system to be set up on Oct. 1 [Gotta pay for it when installed $75.00 per month for all 3 with the usual bells & whistles on the system] I figure it will take me about 2 or 3 days of driving to get there. And 1 day to start setting up the house site. Then I have to go around & check in with the Fire Dept. & Sheriffs Dept [per the wife’s wishes]
You’re forgiven. The best thing to do is bookmark the thread and come back during the week to wallow in the music.

Hiya Biggirl & wonderful to see you!

Good evening Mayor & Thank you for our Daily Bread.

By now Brahms was playing primarily his own works when he went on the road to perform. He really didnt enjoy practicing the piano and getting ready for a concert, but he couldnt say no to the money. His best times in Vienna were spent hanging out with his cronies drinking, smoking cigars and telling the latest dirty jokes.
Where do you go after a Number #1 hit? For Brahms, always looking to cast against type, it was time to have fun.
For years Brahms had been playing Hungarian dances at parties for friends, but he had never written them down. These were tunes he had picked up in his teens during his days as half of the Jo and Eddie Show. While few of the tunes were original, what Brahms would do to them would make his publisher, Fritz Simrock, rich beyond dreams of avarice. First, Jo arranged them for four-handed piano duets, something he and Clara could play for fun. Then he made a two-handed version for solo performers. Then he arranged them for orchestra. His friend Joseph Joachim arranged them for violin and piano. Deciding that violinists shouldnt have all the fun, cellist Bion Tsang recently arranged them for cello and piano. These are all wonderful bon-bons.
Brahms: Hungarian Dance #1 for four-handed piano duet
Hungarian Dance #2 for four-handed piano duet
Hungarian Dance #3 for four-handed piano duet
Hungarian Dance #4 in Joachims violin and piano arrangement
Even Mel Brooks took a shot at Hungarian Dance #4 in the movie The Twelve Chairs from 1970. For those who dont know Fanny Hurst, she was the Jackie Collins and Danielle Steel of the Thirties.
Hope for the Best, Expect the Worst
This one has become part of world folklore.
Hungarian Dance #5 for orchestra
Thats arranger Bion Tsang on cello and my friend Anton Nel on piano. They both teach of the University of Texas at Austin. I attended the first public performance of this arrangement at a private home in Seattle where Bion and pianist Anna Polonsky both hammed it up for great fun.
Good evening G-Pa of two!!!!!

Does it get any better?
Gonna have to try some Strawberry Lemonaid! *Hugs*
But who is that standing apart?
His steps recede into the bushes,
The thickets close behind him.
The barren waste swallows him up.
At 3:52 the recitative leads into an aria.
Ah, who can heal the pain
Of one for whom the balm has become poison,
And who sucked hatred of mankind
From the abundance of love?
At 7:00 the alto is joined by mens chorus in C Major for a beautiful resolution.
If in your psaltery,
Father of love, there is a tone
Which his ear can discern,
Refresh his heart!
Open to his clouded gaze
The thousand springs
Alongside him as he thirsts
In the wilderness.
Brahms would have an occasional infatuation in his later years, and there were always his regular visits to one of the better brothels in Vienna, but the door to love was closed forever, and this song is his farewell.
Good eveing Kathy! *Hugs*
The stair man made it?
