Mary Cheney, the openly gay daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has married her long-time partner Heather Poe, The Daily Caller has learned.
Cheney spokeswoman Kara Ahern confirmed to TheDC that the couple married Friday morning in Washington, D.C.
In a statement provided to TheDC, both the former vice president and his wife, Lynne, said they are delighted the couple could have their relationship recognized.
Our daughter Mary and her long time partner, Heather Poe, were married today in Washington, DC, the Cheneys said.
Poe and Mary Cheney have two children: Cheney gave birth to a son in 2007, and a daughter in 2009. They live together in Virginia.
Mary and Heather have been in a committed relationship for many years, and we are delighted that they were able to take advantage of the opportunity to have that relationship recognized, the Cheneys said. Mary and Heather and their children are very important and much loved members of our family and we wish them every happiness.
We are all so happy for Heather and Mary and their beautiful kids, friend and former Cheney adviser Mary Matalin told TheDC. Happy and moved by the blessing of their commitment and strength.
The gay marriage crowd has become so self-righteous that they are becoming fun. If you dare to disagree with them, they explode in flaming indignation. They are like the Spanish Inquisition.
It’s great sport.
Yes indeed there is. Have you read the book by that name? It’s on my shelf, heavily underlined and asterisked. Time to give it another reread.
Homo “marriage” should always be put in quotes. Like this:
Exclusive: Mary Cheney “marries” longtime partner Heather Poe
Yes.
My library contains two copies. The 2nd is an updated version that covers Clinton.
I was responding to Whoknowswhatevil’s question ‘Haters’? It was Laz who said he hated gays and that they should be burned at the stake like witches, or did you not see his comment? I call that hate. I don’t have a ‘problem’ either. All I said is I wish the Cheney’s every happiness, and have gay friends who’s happiness I would never deny. I knew I would get flamed, and I still don’t give a rats ass. Half the people who responded so vehemently to my comments are no better than Fred Phelps and his gang of idiots. Talk about needing to look in a mirror.
I can both wish no harm to them harm and reject the idea of them disrespecting and reengineering heterosexual marriage and family around their sexual problem at the same time.
I think Laz was being sarcastic when he said that all homosexuals should be burnt at the stake. The point is that this is 21st Century and we should respect human rights. If we believe in condemning the gays and the lesbians, well, that’s one thing we have in common with Radical Islamists in the Middle East.
I agree. However, Laz has been on this board long enough that he should know to put the sarc tag at the end of something like that. Either way, it looks like his comment got pulled.
And to everyone else: As another poster stated, I think civil unions are fine. I don’t agree on redefining the traditional definition of marriage. I do know one couple who have been together longer than my husband and I (29 years), and are good, kind-hearted people. I judge people based on their actions towards others, just as I expect others to judge me based on my actions. Like my husband says: Never met a person I didn’t like, asshole made me hate them! HA!
So, everyone have a nice day. I’m going trout fishing!

DANG 503!!! sorry for the multi-posts everyone!
DON'T MISQUOTE ME!
I said I DATED gays and that they should be served BURNT STEAKS!!!
Damn, guy's gotta explain everything he writes around here (grumble grumble grumble)
I’m sure this thread is filled with gay jokes or anti-agenda rants, and I do get that, but in the end, the Cheneys love their daughter and are happy for her joy. Mazel tov.
Everyone has differences and ban me if you must, but most gays were “born that way,” so to me it is like any other condition of birth, and they should be loved as the precious children of Gd they are, as with any other birth difference like Down Syndrome, etc. Yes, it is up to the individual whether to act upon their orientation, and in the past many did not. Yet in today’s “Glee” atmosphere, you can’t blame kids from acting on it any more than you can blame them for listening to current music. Pop culture is hard to resist. Sex is a stronger urge than ice cream. Not many people want to live without a partner.
Darn Laz, I just spewed beer out my nose............
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry...I must have misread your post...
I wish Free Republic had a ‘like’ button....
I think the Cheney’s are supporting their child like any parent would. They aren’t being poster children for any cause.
I know I would be devastated if one of my children decided to embrace this lifestyle. I also know I wouldn’t love them any less or cast them out of our family.
We, those of us who realize there is a culture war, are losing it because we have just as many wack jobs on our side, imo. Unfortunately, the wack jobs on the other side get the positive spin by the msm.
There’s a culture war and we are losing because of the wack jobs on our side who turn off intelligent people on our side. Same with the race war....another war that is ongoing. We can’t compare to and compete with the other side. They’re the touchy feeling side....and they have the msm, hollywood, pop culture on their side. It’s hard to fight that. It’s even harder to fight that with clueless people on our side.
Your post is spot on. But we are fighting a war different than the other side is fighting and we are losing. Having the extreme right which is made up of some the most stupid people ever and the FACE of our cause, doesn’t help get our message out.
And really, most of the people on our side are freakin’ loons who I disagree with on every other topic. They don’t live in the real world. Which is why they want this site to become an echo chamber. Zot everyone who disagrees, even long time freepers. Zot (and dance on their vitual gaves) of everyone who doesn’t agree with the newest clique.
This ooming from someone who is pretty much clueless when it comes to online stuff and the history of the people who make up this site.
When you have the so called premier conservative site on the web controlled, or assumed controlled, by a bunch of bitter whack job women who want nothing more than to zot everyone who disagrees with them...and actually do everything they can behind the scenes to make it so...then it’s no longer a Conservative force anywhere, the web the least of it.
I hesitate every time I post since I know there are those whack jobs wanting to get me banned. It’s one of the reasons I don’t post much here anymore. It’s only the people like you, Eaker, Kathy in Alaska, and others that keep me coming back.
My husband, and others I sent here, call it a hate site now. With all the anti mormon spam (you’d think mormons were like muslims or worse than muslims). With all the anti Catholic crap. And it’s anti catholic crap, nothing about discussion, just the same damn posters trashing a religion and people. It’s sickening.
Every politician on our side is a RINO. SMH. Everyone who doesn’t follow the bitter bitches and bastards (whomever they are) is not a Conservative.
It’s frustrating.
LOL I was going to ask the same thing :)
