MM,
As you know, I stated that Jesus did not ask anyone to write anything down. Your comments are not on point.
The Old Testament was already written - Jesus did not instruct anyone to write down His gospel.
The passages you cite from Matthew are NOT instances of Jesus telling anyone to write anything down.
And the passage from Revelation refers only to writing down what the writer saw - which is what the contents of the Book of Revelation contains. So, nowhere in the Bible does Jesus instruct anyone to write down His gospel or what happened during his life on earth.
He left a Church to Whom he gave His authority, and they eventually wrote things down as inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for being our moderator. I have learned much in this forum over the years. Hopefully I will learn more in the future. Again you have my thanks.
A Christian that received eternal life from Jesus while reading the Scriptures then has to become a Catholic to get to heaven?
And is miraculously turned into a Catholic when entering heaven?
It seems the Bible says you have to BE a Christian to enter the Kingdom of God in heaven.
...unity through Rome was exactly how God intended Jesus prayer that all may be one to be fulfilled.
Non Catholic Christians see it as unity through Jesus.
It is a tragedy that such unity is not found in your bible (sic) denomination. (Quoted you with a slight change...)
I see nothing to indicate that one must go through Rome to recieve eternal life with Jesus.
I don't like to be arguementative, but wish to counter misconceptions stated about Christians outside of the Roman belief system.
My best to you.
I have very deliberately NOT stated that one has to go through Rome to be saved.
I simply stated that all in heaven will know that the One True Church is the one headed by the pope, and that they were wrong to reject her or unfortunate not to know her while they were on earth.
It is very simple. If one believes oranges come from chickens in Russia, the oranges one eats are still nutritious even though one is wrong about whence they came.
The Gospels are Holy Spirit inspired writings.
The Holy Spirit made it clear the Gospels were to be written by those that wrote them.
The Trinity is Jesus, The Holy Spirit, and God.
So there you have it, God (that would include Jesus), asked to have the writings written
He left a Church to Whom he gave His authority, and they eventually wrote things down as inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Not Mark, Matthew, Luke et al?
Interesting.
Take a look at this:
I think that can be seen as a stamp of approval from Jesus of the written word of the Gospel message.John 1
King James Version (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Thank you for your support.
Well, knowing Jesus will suffice for us.
Our church is headed by Jesus, not "the pope."
If one believes oranges come from chickens in Russia, the oranges one eats are still nutritious even though one is wrong about whence they came.
My what beautifully convoluted analogy! LOL
I'll have the orange (salvation eternal life etc) freely given by Jesus.
You may eat the orange from "the pope" and Rome.
I'm sure there will be Catholics in heaven, as well as ordinary (mere?) Christians and Protestant denominations.
Chapter and verse?
Who do you think GAVE the Law to Moses?
Jesus never instructed us to pray to saints and Mary either and yet Catholics do.
Do try to be consistent.
LOL
So why are you appealing to the Bible that you claim Jesus never told anyone to write instead of the *Church* you claim was instituted by Jesus Himself?
Colossians 1:18 niv
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
Perhaps he meant small ‘c’ catholic; but typed Catholic from habit.
“Don’t laugh; it only encourages him.”
Mrs_Elsie
22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
The church is an organism, not an organization.
Well, that is so simple: Jesus left us with a Church that had authority. The Church adopted a collection of writings written after Jesus died, and the Church declared them to be the very Word of God. So, for that reason alone I accept them as the Word of God, and I know I can rely upon them.
The bile calls the the Catholic Church “the pillar and foundation of truth” (1 Tim. 3:15).
Jesus told the apostles and their successors, the popes and the bishops, “He who listens to you listens to me, and he who rejects you rejects me” (Luke 10:16). Jesus promised to guide his Church into all truth (John 16:1213).
I can have confidence that his Church teaches only the truth.

Luke 10 niv
1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5 When you enter a house, first say, Peace to this house. 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8 When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. 9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, The kingdom of God has come near to you. 10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 11 Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near. 12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[b]
16 Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.
17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.
