Jesus left us with a Church and the Holy Spirit. He entrusted the Church to spread His Truth (His Doctrine). He did not even write it down or ask people to write it down.
Nice try.
The lesson learned at Golgotha is that its never too late to acknowledge Jesus as Savior, not that doctrine does not matter.
The thief was Catholic and received salvation the minute he recognized Jesus was God and honored Him as his God as his last act as he was dying.
Hey what did you do, none of my post show now!
Actually, at least two fellow freepers have awakened about MormonISM due to the work done at Freerepublic in exposing the heresies in the ISM. And we have no idea this side of Heaven as to how many who do not share publicly because of being called liars.
No wonder I hit a nerve on doctrine with you. Yes, I am well aware of the superior doctrine of the Catholic Church. You do remember Jesus was a Jew, don't you? He kept The Law. He kept the Sabbath. He went to a synagogue. He did not live in fine silk robes or drive around in a Popemobile. Or have armed guards. There is no need for further discussion. I see where it all would lead.
If by “superior” you mean “authoritative as deigned by Jesus”, then you are correct.
In heaven everyone is Catholic.
At least that is what the Bible says.
At least you admit that you write off people who think differently than you do (which is hilarious given that you simultaneously make pretenses that doctrine is not important).
Your stance is analogous to the “progressive” who claims to be open-minded and tolerant, while simultaneously labeling certain ideas as criminal hate speech.
You know I have deep respect for you, my FRiend. I have spoken to people who I directed here regarding Catholic teaching who were totally turned off by the approach of some posters.
Giving information in a Christian manner turns hearts. Snarky, colorful insulting posts demean instead of teach.
More flies with honey and all that. Now I do not recommend anyone go to the Religion Forum and I try to stay away.
You have a different Bible than me then.
Now who is making stuff up? I said there was no need for further discussion because I know where it would lead. I've had these discussions before here. I didn't write anybody off. I abhor Catholicism almost as much as I do Mormonism. I can see where post #218 hit a nerve with you. I would list all of the questions I asked you to answer but you did not but the FR server problems make that next to impossible. Go forth. Believe what you wish.
If we take Jesus’ prayer soon before he died seriously, then we must all strive to be one. We cannot be one if we don’t all consider such unity important. Catholics and Orthodox are the only groups that even try to make this a reality and structure their groups as if that unity was something they take seriously.
We can’t all be one if every one thinks they should have their own personal interpretation of what it means to follow Christ.
In heaven, we will all see that unity through Rome was correct and should not have been resisted precisely because such unity through Rome was exactly how God intended Jesus’ prayer “that all may be one” to be fulfilled.
Of course I pray that many who were not Catholic on earth will enter heaven - but once they get there they will all be Catholic.
It is a tragedy that such unity is not found in your bible.
Once a person gives their life to Jesus, repents and becomes a "new creature in Christ Jesus," there is no more striving to be one. We are one. One with each other, and with Jesus.
Of course I pray that many who were not Catholic on earth will enter heaven - but once they get there they will all be Catholic
You are welcome to your opinion from your belief system taught to you by Catholicism, but it is presumptuous of you to draw a circle with Catholics as the only Christians inside of it, and all the other Christians outside of it.
God drew a bigger circle, and you should be happy he included your denomination.
I didn’t draw any circle. The circle Christ established is Catholic - all who obtain salavation will understand this on the last day. Those that reject His Church - on earth yet obtain salvation due to His mercy - will be totally content and overjoyed to be Catholic as they, Mary and the saints worship the Lord forever in heaven. They will cry tears of joy when they see that Catholicism is true because it will be so powerfully true and good and beautiful that the error of rejecting her won’t matter any more.
God’s mercy is amazing - but it is a mistake to take it for granted.
Except for this........
Revelation 1:17-19 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. 19 Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this.
In all, that argument against the written word of Scripture is a bunch of nonsense. Jesus never said that the church was the means by which we were to know about Him either and to pass down by oral tradition His teachings.
God is a BIG fan of the written word, since you haven't noticed.
Exodus 17:14 Then the LORD said to Moses, Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.
Exodus 34:1 The LORD said to Moses, Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.
Exodus 34:27 And the LORD said to Moses, Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.
Deuteronomy 11:19-21 19 You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 20 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens are above the earth.
Deuteronomy 27:3 And you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
Deuteronomy 27:8 And you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:7 Jesus said to him, Again it is written, You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.
Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, Be gone, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.
Jesus used the written word to defeat Satan's attempts to tempt Him. He succeeded where Adam and Eve had failed.
In the garden, the first thing Satan did was attack the word God had given them. Adam passed it to Eve verbally, ONE command, and she got it wrong.
By appealing to the authority of the WRITTEN word, there was no chance that Jesus would do that. God's word is settled in heaven forever.
These are all the times that *It is written....* is listed in the NT.
But nobody can stop you from trusting your church to save you and following it. Let us know how that works out for you because even most Catholics I know aren't even sure if they're going to get into heaven.
I'll stick with the surety that faith in Christ gives us.
John 20:30-31 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.
Word of mouth is absolutely the least reliable means of communicating ANYTHING especially an organization with the history of corruption that the RCC has. It's absolute folly to depend on that instead of the written word that God gave us.
Amen.
I think that we ALL agree that doctrines DO matter; or why else would they be CALLED ‘doctrine’??
What we are fussing over is whether one has to be COMPLETELY correct on doctrine.
“Where is the line?” is the question we are asking.
I think we’d ALL agree if you have NONE of the ‘doctrine’ right; you wouldn’t be a Christian at all!
But is THAT even right?
John 6:28-29 (niv)
Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.
1 John 3:21-24
Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps Gods commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
But the lure pulls you right back in; doesn't it!
Perhaps an organization like AA needs to fire up:Freepers Anonymous.
