Two senior leaders of the House Armed Services Committee this week criticized President Obamas forthcoming plan to seek deeper cuts in strategic nuclear warheads, calling a Pentagon study on the matter unilateral disarmament.
House Armed Services Committee Chairman Rep. Howard P. Buck McKeon and Rep. Michael Turner, chairman of the strategic forces subcommittee, made the comments in response to a report in the Free Beacon disclosing that the president has decided to seek a deployed strategic warhead goal of as few as 1,000 warheads under the Nuclear Posture Review implementation study.
McKeon and Turner said in a statement issued Tuesday that Obamas meeting this week in Mexico with Russian President Vladimir Putin raises new concerns about unilateral U.S. cuts in the nuclear arsenal.
To be clear, the White House has yet to announce how it plans to implement the unilateral reductions of the New START Treaty, they said. At the same time, the presidents promised modernization plan isnt being delivered.
The Obama administration, in seeking Republican senators support for ratification of the 2010 New START arms treaty with Russia, agreed to spend $72.4 billion on modernizing the aging nuclear stockpile and related infrastructure. The presidents most recent budget request cuts $500 million from the modernization funds.

They are calling it like they see it, and they are right.
With China and russia building their forces , it is the height of ignorance to be destroying ours.
“General James Mattoon Scott, please pick up the red, white and blue courtesy phone...”
We can deal with Romney, we die under Obama.
Somebody has to stop this guy. November may be too late.
Hopefully, all us Americans can begin stalling him out- starting with these military guys.
There are times that I think I would have rather we had been dealing with a Russian invasion for the past 4 years, instead of the destruction of our country at the hands of that filthy bastard in the White House.
General James Mattoon Scott, please pick up the red, white and blue courtesy phone...
Beat me too it. Years ago, when I saw Seven Days in May, I actually was gullible enough to root for Col Casey (Kirk Douglas) - thinking our govt would never be that stupid.
El Wrongo wuz I.
Oops, Bill Gates once again took ofer the keyboard and made me type “too” instead of “to”.
Of course, the Obamadork would have typed “two”.
After Obama is reelected he will have more “flexibility.”
They weren’t thinking; they were hoping.
“Peace through strength” works every time it is tried!!! Sadly our current regime is against this tried and true method of keeping the United States safe. ABO 2012
It's not ignorance - it's deliberate, malignant evil - a modern-day Trojan Horse.
