Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has been tapped to play Mitt Romney in debate preparations for President Barack Obama, an Obama campaign official confirmed Monday.
Kerry will mimic the presumptive GOP nominee in debate practice, anticipating Romney's answers and speaking style so the president can know what to expect in their face-to-face showdowns this fall.
Obama's campaign has made Romney's record as a one-term Massachusetts governor one of their prime lines of attacka record Kerry knows well as a five-term senator from the state.
First reported by The Boston Globe, Obama's senior strategist David Axelrod said Kerry was the best pick for the job.
"He's an expert debater who has a fundamental mastery of a wide range of issues, including Mitt Romney's Massachusetts. He's the obvious choice," Axelrod said in a statement to the Globe.
The senator himself had plenty of practice on the presidential debate stage when he took on President George W. Bush three times in 2004 as the Democratic nominee.
Obama is scheduled to battle his Republican contender in three presidential debates in October. The events are set to occur in Denver, Colorado; and Hempstead, New York; and Boca Raton, Florida. Also in October, the vice presidential candidates will debate in Danville, Kentucky.

I find it pretty funny how in these pictures, Romney looks better than Kerry.
Take a look at how Kerry isn’t even smiling here, and why does Romney have the American flag pin?
And I find it even funnier that Kerry got beat by Bush, the person Obama figures is responsible for everything wrong with America.
“Is it true that fubar served in Vietnam?”
Yeah, and won a purple heart for injuries resulting from self-inflicted stupidity, and married his way into the Ketchup factory business too

For Kerry, there’s an extra ‘p’ in doppelganger.
OK, you’ve convinced me. I’m voting for Kerry.
Type casting.
First, Sarah Jessica Parker. Now, John Kerry. Someone in the Obama campaign has an affinity for horses.
Is it lost on all here that Mr. RomneyCARE
is hated in Massachusetts which is why
TEAM ROMNEY has attempt to EJECT Massachusetts delegates
from the convention UNLESS they swear to remain
on their knees in obedience to Mr. RomneyCARE.
Is not one ineligible, liberal Tyrant enough?
Well, since John F’n Kerry pretended to be what he wasn’t in Viet Nam, he should be good at pretending once again. Actually, this is genius by some idiot in the Soetoro Campaign. Too bad Marx or Alinsky aren’t alive to spar with Romney as surrogate for Soetoro.
Expert on losing?
The whole thing almost seems...incestuous.
You aren’t making much sense.

Prove it, let me see your source and if it has any credibility.
Fact is, Kerry was and always is a joke, and is a pathetic imitation, if any, of the frontrunner. Obama figures going in the back room and politically masturbating is a good idea. I say let him go ahead.
I think this is really good news.
An empty headed Democratic Party echo chamber will not offer Obama the slightest preparation for a debate with Romney.
I can’t think of a worse choice than that narcissistic corrupt moron twit, Kerry.
Which is fine by me.
Kerry was marginally better than W in the 2004 debates -- but that isn't saying a whole lot. He lost the election, but not b/c of his debate performances. He lost the election because voters thought he was more of a doofus than Bush.
