BRUNSWICK, Ohio (AP) Mitt Romney is refusing to say that he would overturn President Barack Obama's new policy allowing some young illegal immigrants to stay in the United States.
The Republican presidential candidate tells CBS Face the Nation that if hes president, Obamas executive order would be overtaken by events by virtue of my putting in place a long-term solution.
Romney was asked three times in the interview if he would overturn Obamas order, but he didnt directly answer the question. Instead, he said would work to pass a law to help those young people who were brought in by their parents through no fault of their own. Romney said he doesnt know why Obama feels stop-gap measures are the right way to go.
The candidates comments represent a further softening of his rhetoric on immigration since the GOP primary campaign ended.

I like it. Clear thinking at last. Instead of listening to the campaign blather out of a politician's mouth, we ought to look to their actual deeds in office to get a sense of who they really are:
Mitt Romneys Dismal Record
"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

Romney's "accomplishments".
1. Implemented/created Gay Marriage in MA
2. Supported and forced Gay Adoption in MA
3. Supported Abortion wholeheartedly
4. Raised taxes/fees over 300% while being Governor of MA
5. Implemented a state-level Cap and Trade system.
6. Supported Man-Made Global Warming
7. Supported the Brady Bill
8. Implemented a state level Assault Weapons Ban after the Federal AWB was allowed to expire.
9. Supported TARP
10. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Citizenship for those already here)
11. Supported McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty)
12. Implemented a socialized medicine in MA called RomneyCare complete with an Individual Mandate and $50 abortions.
13. Nominated 27 Democrats (out of 36 nominations) for judgeships in MA, many of them extreme left-wingers.
> Upon election, Mitt Romney is going to continue forwarding the Obama left’s agenda - just like he did while he was Governor of Massachusetts. Freepers who think otherwise, are simply buying tickets to Hope & Change II: The sequel.
I understand why people want to vote Romney over Zer0. And indeed, the thought of this communist leaving the White House is a happy thought but the truth is that a stealth socialista like Romney is positioned to do a lot more damage. Our worst nightmare: a Dimocrat agenda that will be bolstered by the very GOP that should be fighting it.
That’s why I’m focusing my fundraising and call bank energies on Congressional races this year. The presidency is lost, one way or another.
Not even close, you say? Let's review his record, shall we?

Smart to not answer that question.
Good question.
Why did Romney feel the need to make a public statement in which he essentially agreed with what Obama's doing - just not the way he's going about it?
How did his statement serve to differentiate him and his agenda from his opponent? Well, it didn't. Romney missed a golden opportunity to slam Obama against the wall over an issue that 70% of the American people are stridently opposed to.
Instead, he indicated his AGREEMENT with Obama's policy, if not his methods. Lord help us. The elites are going to move the ball down field on their agenda no matter which of their puppets is elected.
But not as a percentage of GDP. Interesting how you don't address that crucial point.
And, as I said, you also conveniently don't address the many attempts Bush made at reforming things when a bubble was becoming apparent.
Your evasions are the typical ones often used. They're not based on the facts.
Romney is already on record saying Obama's EO was the wrong way to go about this. Weren't you listening?
Sure. In Romney's mind, Congress should pass an amnesty for illegals bill so that he can sign it. Let's not worry about overriding the express will of the American people, and our immigration laws.
Gotta keep importances in perspective, you know.
your’re thinking too narrow.
This must be aimed with passion and fury. So what if it might not pass the Senate.
The Republicans don't try to exercise what power they do have and look worse for the lack of effort. There are Democrats who know Obama has overstepped the Constitutional boundaries and might join with them, resulting in a razor thin defeat, or even pushing it over the line into a surprise victory! But if they never try, they'll never find out.
And why care if his so-called ‘base’ gets fired up? Those are the same people who riot after basketball games.
The purpose is to scare the shit out of the Democrats, cut the dictator want-a-be off at the knees, and demonstrate this government belongs to the people. We're past being polite.
"The Devil You Know . . . . .
I see you're another graduate of the Sun Tzu school of political warfare. Congrats for choosing to live with reality, and for not buying tickets to "Mitt Romney: Hope & Change II".
“Obamas looking better and better - as long as hes restrained by GOP majorities in both houses. “
Just 3 days after Obama goes out of his way to show his arrogant disregard for the Constitution, rule of law, powers of Congress, and political compromise ... you talk of Obama ‘restrained’? My brain hurts..
we have enough proof there is no “restraint” on this would-be dictator. He needs to be removed from office forthwith.
Can't be said often enough, or loud enough. The Republican party is making the final capitulation to left-liberalism before our very eyes.
It appears not everyone hears the same thing. I’m so surprised, politicians are always crystal clear in what they say and always do exactly as they say.
The one thing I’m sure about. If we elect Romney we probably won’t have to read Supreme Court Decisions penned by Holder or Hillary.
At this point I really don’t care what Romney is alleged to have said or not said. He isn’t going to be Dictator, Barack Hussein Obama and that means there is a breath left in the Constitution.
After making such a big deal about all the EOs he’d erase, this is disappointing. But maybe not all that surprising. Mitt could easily ride the fence by saying he doesn’t necessarily disagree with the philosophy, but that he wants to uphold the Constitution and so does not wish to disobey Congress’ will within the Constitution. And he hopes that Congress will work with him to establish a humane answer to this (maybe halfway houses back to Mexico), bla bla bla.
You've obviously mis-read the play that just happened.
Obama issued an edict which flies into the face of the will of the vast majority of American citizens and our immigration laws, and Romney merely disagreed with the way Obama moved the ball down field - not with the fact that America lost yardage.
Even with a screamingly bad policy, it’s better to do it constitutionally than extra-constitutionally.
Actually, if our elected officials were doing their job there would be no immigration order to overturn by the time jan 2013 come by.
The very fact that we are going to wait for the next President to come in to change it shows that we have already lost America.
The real question is: Are we going to sit back and let this man in the WH abuse his power?
It’s no wonder we have Romney as our nominee. I see why now.
We conservatives worked hard to make sure the Dream Act was defeated and we succeeded. It’s NOT an issue. It was defeated. It’s history.
Obama wants this issue (which was defeated) to be an election issue “Republicans vs Latinos” even though we already defeated that bill.
When we want to ask a candidate if he supports the policy we are basically saying we have no problem with how Obama got it to become law by by-passing Congress.
Obama should be impeached over this. It’s an act of a dictator.
The 0bama enablers posting don’t see that the time to go after the person running against 0bama is after the election.
ah GOP establishment bots. Willing to swallow any and all indignities to see “their” side ‘win” since the CA Recall election. The RINO candidates change but the same silly enabling justifications never change.
You got that right.
