A GOP senator on the short list to be Mitt Romney's running mate is applauding President Obama's move to forgo deportations for some illegal immigrants.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said the more lenient policy is "welcome news" for those immigrants who will benefit, though he was quick to knock the administration for acting unilaterally.
Todays announcement will be welcome news for many of these kids desperate for an answer, but it is a short term answer to a long term problem," the Cuban-American Rubio said in a statement. "And by once again ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress, this short term policy will make it harder to find a balanced and responsible long term one.
Rubio's comments are a stark contrast to those coming from other Republicans, who are blasting the new rules as a threat to U.S. jobs and possibly illegal.
Rubio's remarks also further complicate the position of GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who took a hard conservative stance against illegal immigrants amid the heat of the GOP primary but is now searching for ways to soften that stance in order to appeal to Hispanic voters, who will be vital in a number of swing states.

Remember how Rubio came out against Gingrinch in Florida?
NWO scum.
Ba Bye Marco ... watch out for the door.
To me, this is just the verbalized platform of the good Bishop (Rubio just let the cat out of the bag too early)
...And to believe the some are trying to convince me with false narratives as to why I should vote for Williard.
...same highway as Zero, but at different speeds.
I can only hope that Zero is doing this now because he knows that SCOTUS is going to rule in favor of AZ 1070.
They don’t want to understand the quote.
That was one of my first thoughts when I saw this news today. I definitely believe that either or both of the shills Obama put on the Supreme Court are filling him in on insider court knowledge.
Insider trading of another sort.
"And by once again ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress, this short term policy will make it harder to find a balanced and responsible long term one.
This is the long and short of it...and even the first part of his statement is accurate--the people brought here as babies or born here to illegals will welcome this action.
But it is ALSO clearly against the rule of law, and will ultimately hurt these people.
Obamugabe is a sleaze.
I understand exactly what Rubio stated. Rubio is 100% for every illegal eventually getting citizenship.
Rubio is trying to be nuanced. He will fool those who want to believe that Rubio is somehow conservative.
Next?
I just called and chewed on someone in Rubio’s office about his support for any of Obama’s announcement. They tried to assurement the media is twisting his point of view.
I told them they needed then to put out a stronger statement and position against this directive, and I asked when Congress was going to grow a backbone and start supporting the Constitution.
It’s simple to understand.
“short-term answer” and “short-term policy” do not equate to a the true definition of violation of the oath of office and violation of the Constitution.

forget him. He’s in with Jebbie, has to be... and Jeb is in with Romney although he won’t publicly declare same. There goes what was left of the country.
Wishful thinking I fear.
FOX has been nearly as wild about Rubio as they were about Mittens.
Quite a few freepers were/are on that band wagon as well.
Viva Castro! Viva Jeb and Viva Rubio!
Well, he’s just eliminated himself from the veep-stakes, that’s for sure.
Romney won’t be caught in the same room with him now. And to tell the truth, I’m fine with that because he was never on my short list.
Still... I’ve been watching politics a long time and you seldom see anyone blow their own foot off that gracefully — or that completely.
