GOP Sen. Rubio says deportation leniency is 'welcome news'
The Hill ^ | 06/15/12 01:07 PM ET | Mike Lillis

A GOP senator on the short list to be Mitt Romney's running mate is applauding President Obama's move to forgo deportations for some illegal immigrants.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said the more lenient policy is "welcome news" for those immigrants who will benefit, though he was quick to knock the administration for acting unilaterally.

“Today’s announcement will be welcome news for many of these kids desperate for an answer, but it is a short term answer to a long term problem," the Cuban-American Rubio said in a statement. "And by once again ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress, this short term policy will make it harder to find a balanced and responsible long term one.”

Rubio's comments are a stark contrast to those coming from other Republicans, who are blasting the new rules as a threat to U.S. jobs and possibly illegal.

Rubio's remarks also further complicate the position of GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who took a hard conservative stance against illegal immigrants amid the heat of the GOP primary but is now searching for ways to soften that stance in order to appeal to Hispanic voters, who will be vital in a number of swing states.

Anyone with half a brain KNOWS this is just a play by Obama to (abusing the executive order privilege AGAIN) to lock in Mexican votes (legal and illegal) for Novmember.

Rubio just made a fool of himself. He should have recognized what this was about, and just STFU. Obama does not give a damn about Mexican immigrants — only thier votes.

What a disgusting sham -— like everything else that Obama does to America.

That's because he's expecting Obama to set aside the Natural Born Citizen requirement for the Presidency next.

No Rubio just REVEALED himself (for those too stupid not to have figured it out before) that he has no respect for the rule of law and will put “his people” above all else.

I’m not sure that any of you read the original quote. Rubio said it was “welcome news” to those kids; not to Americans, Republicans, or him.

This pro-illegal attitude is exactly why Rubio is not suitable as a VP pick.

I doubt our forefathers envisioned a concerted effort by the political class, unencumbered by ideological differences, to transform the nation into the United States of Taco Stand.

Here’s Rubio’s statement:

Senator Rubio Comments On Today’s DHS Announcement

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement by the Department of Homeland Security regarding its immigration enforcement policies:

“There is broad support for the idea that we should figure out a way to help kids who are undocumented through no fault of their own, but there is also broad consensus that it should be done in a way that does not encourage illegal immigration in the future. This is a difficult balance to strike, one that this new policy, imposed by executive order, will make harder to achieve in the long run.

“Today’s announcement will be welcome news for many of these kids desperate for an answer, but it is a short term answer to a long term problem. And by once again ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress, this short term policy will make it harder to find a balanced and responsible long term one.”

Oh, we are awake alright. Our eyes have been stitched wide open, but our hands are tied behind our backs by BOTH parties.

We ought to know by now the logic behind having an actual, unquestionable US citizen as president, in case it wasn’t clear as a bell before this current mess.

Political-speak. He wants amnesty (for those 30 year old kids) as a long term solution.

Not what he said, at all. Only what you wished he said.

Yeah, Rubio should officially be off the veep list now. Damn, I liked him before this, but I won’t support ANY candidate that’s soft on foreign invaders.

Shortly after he was elected, Rubio was speaking about amnesty and said something that caused me to realize he is a conservative fraud.

Rubio has revealed himself to be a disgusting panderer. Rubio values third-world, illegal, anti-capitalist, anti-American invaders more than he does citizens or our Constitution.

Do we assume that this includes other than Mexican nationality? Does this apply to All coming across the border from Mexico? Will they ask for ID papers of any kind?

Lets just say “No” to Rubio for VP.

In fact, much as I hate Obama, if I have to vote for Romney AND Rubio, its a deal breaker. I leave the space blank. Because the difference between Obama/Biden and Romney/Rubio becomes “whatever.”
