~Favorite City Songs~
Kings of Leon - Manhattan live
Well I could dance all night And some of the day That's how I play That's how I play
I say who are you No matter who you are So you dance all night And you dance all day
I say I say
Gonna build a fire Gonna smoke it up Gonna sip this wine And pass the cup
These avenues and these reseviors We gonna show this town How to kiss these stars
I say I say
You've come to kill Gonna spend it high Your parents grieve I know they are right
And then talking to you Well they calm you down So it's all for you who let you down
I say I say I say I say
Just wanna take you hand I'm gonna drive you home Just gonna keep on Keep on, keep on And you gonna have a rest

George Strait - Amarillo By Morning
"Amarillo By Morning" Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone. Everything that I've got is just what I've got on. When that sun is high in that Texas sky I'll be bucking it to county fair. Amarillo by morning, Amarillo I'll be there. They took my saddle in Houston, broke my leg in Santa Fe. Lost my wife and a girlfriend somewhere along the way. Well I'll be looking for eight when they pull that gate, And I'm hoping that judge ain't blind. Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's on my mind. Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone. Everything that I've got is just what I've got on. I ain't got a dime, but what I got is mine. I ain't rich, but Lord I'm free. Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be. Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be.

It was Hank Snow, his was the hit version. No one ever heard of it by Cash until that commercial. And for the record, it’s really an Australian song, so Hank Snow’s people had to translate all those Australian cities into American cities. Pretty amazing.

“Next was Memphis, I never really chose a song for Memphis because there are so many.”
The Memphis library maintains a running list of all the songs that include Memphis in the lyrics. I’m not sure of the current total, but it’s well above 1,000 songs. I said “Walking in Memphis” was my favorite, but it’s next to impossible to pick a favorite.
Oh, and I’ve known Denise LaSalle and her husband, “Super Wolf” (James Wolfe) for thirty years.

Poughkeepsie — City of Sin (Batteries Not Included, 1980).
This cult classic is about the town where I grew up. Although Batteries Not Included first recorded the song in the slide-show video, below, in 1980 (or something like that), the video was recorded in 2010. Most of you will recognize several of the people in the video.
