The United States Army is debating whether to admit women to Ranger School, its elite training program for young combat leaders.
Proponents argue this is to remove a final impediment to the careers of Army women. But the move would erode the unique Ranger ethos and culture—not to mention the program's rigorous physical requirements—harming its core mission of cultivating leaders willing to sacrifice everything for our nation.
The Army's 75th Ranger Regiment traces its roots back to World War II, when it won acclaim for penetrating deep behind Japanese lines. Founded in 1950, Ranger School teaches combat soldiers small-unit tactics and leadership under extreme duress. It pushes men harder than any other program in the Army's curriculum.
Competition to attend the course is fierce, with about 4,000 men eligible to attend each year. Only about half graduate. Of those, only 20% make it through without having to retake various phases.
For decades, completion of Ranger School has been the best indicator for determining which young men can handle the enormous responsibility of combat leadership

No, no, no, no. I said the plane was capable of +9g’s - I didn’t say I flew it at that. You will tunnel out, black out, way before that without a g-suit. We only fly those things in regular flight suits. An no, Air Combat USA does not fly nor will they allow you to fly the full envelope. Again, I was simply stating that the plane can do +9, that’s all.
That bears no resemblance to what I said, and you know that.
BTW, 100 lb packs are tough but not impossible.
They're even tougher when you're getting two hours of sleep every 24, not all at once, and the food's marginal, you're doing that for days at a time, and there's people out there trying to kill you.

Just a point you made re: 9g's ... if you read it you'll know it wasn't all the time. You pull a turn trying to get inside the other pilot's turn you will pull up to that much.

The picture was posted to me as being real and how heroic our guys are and women couldn't be doing something like that. I could probably come up with pictures of women helping shot up guys just like that.
The whole idea of this thread is that women are not capable of combat. My rejoinder was - why can't we at least try to see what we can do. The guys all came back with smarmy answers as to how we should just stay in the kitchen. I'm saying BS to that. So that makes me a woman with fantasies???? I think they're just scared we might show them up.
I've had great chats on personal email here that were great, quite funny and informative. It's only the guys who want to come out with their snarky comments.
I've had fun chatting with people on the public posts but I think all the smoke and flame have died out as far as I'm concerned.

Ps - I don’t know where the picture came from originally. One site gave the name of the person (supposedly) shot. Video games can be quite realistic. All that I am saying is - there are 85 pictures of that scene I found on the internet and it could have come from anywhere. One site that does war games had it. It could be real or it could be an action shot from something like Warcraft. I do not know. An no, I’m “so you are just saying it’s a screen shot from a video game or movie” I do not know. I’m just looking at the picture and taking from it what I see about it. It could be real. So far I’ve not read who the people supposedly are in it. They still could be fake names, I do not know.

And that’s why, say, a Boeing 777 under wing stress tests can pull 150% of their load before the wing snaps. And before you accuse me of comparing the two planes, it’s what the FAA says the M-260 is rated at not what it could be capable of. The demonstrated cross-wind landing of a Cessna 152 is 12kts. That’s not to say it could land at a CW of 15 or more. It’s what’s demonstrated. Key word.

Later the officer in charge of the course called me aside and requested that I give the errant butter bar a passing grade. I refused to do so, citing the fact that this woman was expected to be able to lead her troops into combat, EVEN AT NIGHT. The officer blew his stack and threatened me with disciplinary action for refusing to obey his order. I told him that if he wanted to pass her, that was up to him but I would not do so. He subsequently calmed down and apologized to me explaining that he was under terrific pressure to pass all of the newly acquired women through all the training whether they qualified or not. I sympathized with him because he was actually a pretty good officer, and I was already aware of the background political machinations behind the integration of women into our outfit. I understand that the second lieutenant in question was assigned another administrative position within the battalion

I honestly believe that many young people in our society get most of their “grounding in reality” about war from watching movies and TV shows like Star Trek, G.I. Jane, The Matrix, Crouching Tiger, etc. After watching 110# girls karate kick 300# bikers into unconsciousness a few hundred times, fantasy replaces reality. It’s a Hollywood brainwash.
I dread what is coming to our military and our nation the next time we are forced to fight a major war not on our terms, that is, with Predator drones, laser- and GPS-guided missiles, total air superiority at all times, etc.
Sooner or later, we’re going to find ourselves in a situation like Korea, 1950. Shocked, unprepared, and unready. With an enemy nearly as well equipped as we are. An enemy that will not be using bugles and flares for commo, as they did in 1950.
But like in 1950, it might be an enemy that does not care about losing thousands of troops per day for as long as it takes to prevail, since they have 50 million “excess” males anyway, and their masters would like to cull that number down.
Our PC military of sold-out perfumed prince generals, simpering queers and 110# girls is going to be in for one hell of a surprise, when it turns out that real war does not resemble Star Trek or G.I. Jane. Just imagine how many delustional skydancers there are out there.
