Glenn Beck once said that leaving Fox News Channel, as he did in 2011, would earn him $40 million by allowing him to concentrate on his own web-based subscriber operation, GBTV.
Now The New York Times reports he has signed a $100 million contract for his radio shows to appear on Clear Channel Communications stations across the country.
The move puts the pressure on Rush Limbaugh, whose advertisers abandoned him earlier this year after he called a college student a "slut" because she supported contraception coverage in healthcare plans. The Times said:
Now carried by more than 400 stations, the show typically ranks No. 3 among all news-talk radio shows, behind Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, so the contract extension brings a measure of stability to local stations that carry it.
Limbaugh's contract is worth $200 million per year. Beck's is worth $100 million over five years.

Think there could be a reason that so many commentators are buying into Mitt Romney?

Becks refusal to accept the contention that Obama is not a natural born U.S. citizen doesn't bother me because it's long been obvious that Obama's citizenship is never going to be the issue that removes him from office.
Although I totally reject the basic concepts of Mormonism, Beck's Mormon faith is his business and unless he begins proselytizing on his shows I don't hold it against him - but I do wonder how he can buy into it.
Glenn Beck always generates controversy and that proves he's doing a good job. That having been said, the contention that Beck is the slightest threat to Rush Limbaugh's place as the undisputed king of conservative talk radio is patently absurd.
He has said many times he did convert from being a Catholic. At that, there is a video floating around of an interview a few years back where he described his conversion.
Of course, not that it matters. Not like his Catholicism or Mormonism effects any of our liberty. As long as he is free to choose his faith, so are we.
To all of you that say that you don’t listen to him because he has made fun of birthers....
Do you agree with everything that Rush or Hannity or Ron Paul or Romney says....I could go on.... Bush? Reagan?
He still has quite a bit of informative and entertaining shows on with great guests.
IMHO......he has distanced himself from the Birthers for the critics but still believes that there is something there.
Huckabee Wants Limbaugh Fired As 129 Advertisers Sign 'No Rush' List
Mike Huckabee's radio talk show syndicator has sent an email urging radio stations to replace Rush Limbaugh with Huckabee's show.
Like A Fly on an Elephant's Ass!
That much per year?
I could make a nice living from just the savings in New York taxes that Rush is no longer paying.
Let's see 8.8 percent for the state and 3.6 percent for the city is:
12.4 percent of 200 Million or:
$24.8 Million per year.
That Bloomberg is a smart man. /s
I wonder how much of that will wind up in Utah. How is that anyone's business?
I'll take multiple wives over child molesting priests any day.
How, Mr. BusinessInsider, exactly does this put pressure on Rush?
Beck’s show is live 9am-12noon ET, while Rush’s show is live 12noon-3pm ET.
Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio syndicates Beck, Rush and Sean Hannity, as well as Coast to Coast with George Noory and the Bob & Tom morning drive show, so Premiere can deliver a turnkey 20 hours of talk radio to an affiliate; the only opening on their weekday dance card is the 6p-10p slot (Mark Levin is syndicated by Cumulus, which also syndicates John Batchelor and the overnight RedEye Radio guys).
If anything, this puts pressure on competing talk acts in the 9a-12noon slot, such as Laura Ingraham (TRN) and Mike Gallagher (Salem). For a conservative, the 9a-12n time slot is either a feast or chaos, depending on your point of view, because there are so many top quality conservative hosts in this block; I would include the marvelous Chris Plante of WMAL in Washington and the steady and reliable Tom Marr of WCBM in Baltimore in this group (you can get both these guys on the internet).
Beck’s radio shows are quite good, and deliver a lead in audience to the Big Guy.

That might fly on planet Kolob but not here.
There, edited for accuracy.

Fox News runs him off and he signs a contract for a 100 mil?
Glenn Beck should go back to being a stand-up comedian. Never been a Beck fan ever since he did a show on the Founding Fathers and claimed the little slave squatting behind Washington on the famous picture of Washington crossing the Delaware was more responsible for winning the Revolutionary War than anyone else.
“Rush Limbaugh, whose advertisers abandoned him earlier this year “
They did no such thing.
Beck didn’t make a dime off of me... I refuse to listen to that two-faced nutcase.
This magazine needs new editors. That statement is false.
