I made an interesting observation here in Southern California a few minutes ago.
Background:
We are on vacation here after seeing my #3 son coming back from an overseas deployment in the Marines. FWIW, it was with the 1/4 on a MEU "booze Cruise" in the Western Pacific. I backed into a support pole in the underground garage at the hotel yesterday and made wuite a dent in the passenger door of the rental. I took it to a body shop here in San Clemente so I could get an idea of how much it's gonna cost me.
While waiting for the owner to get me an estimate I was looking at the various cars in the shop. I saw only ONE car with an 0bama sticker, and 5 with Romney or Republican/Libertarian stickers. While yacking with the owner we got to talking about government and he asked me where I was originally from. I told him Texas, and he then told me that if he could get out from under his mortgage here, he'd move his business to the DFW area and get out of here. Quite a few of the business owners here on the beach area have left because of the regulations and taxes. He detests 0bama, as do most business owners here.
I don't think California will be a complete shoo-in for 0bama this fall.
It’s a shoo-in for the Usurper. That’s not to say that there isn’t a strong strain of conservatism left in the California electorate and millions of voters who detest 0bummer. San Diego and Orange counties used to be strongly conservative, especially Orange. But that has been diluted by illegal aliens who vote (remember what happened to B-1 Bob Dornan) and the hands-out entitlement crowd. The central valley is still conservative but not populous enough to offset LA, with its huge population, and home to millions of libs, helped by San Francisco knee-jerk libs. It’s just too much to overcome.
You forgot huge and liberal LA.
“Oh, I can believe how much as I live in the Vampire State of NY. Granted I live in Western NY (Buffalo area) but it is pretty blue here except in some of the burbs sort of like Cali.”
That’s the problem with New York (Illinois, Oregon, Washington, and California also come to mind).
It doesn’t matter if you’re 350 miles distant on the shores of the great lakes — if you live within New York states boundaries, you’ll always be ruled by the leftist “New York City” mentality. Because there are so many of them, it’s almost impossible for conservatives to have a voice in state government, beyond a few squeaks here and there.
The only way to “regain one’s conservative voice” is to move to a state where there is a preponderance of conservatives, and to join their chorus.
I predict that during the next three decades, we are going to see waves of such movement. I will coin the term “The American Great Trek”, as conservatives flee to those areas of the country where they can live in uncontested majorities amongst themselves. (Aside: this will be not unlike another “trek” that took place decades ago in South Africa, hence, the name).
I predict these areas will come to be the “Conservative Homelands” in a rapidly-balkanizing North America....
Lilly white San Clemente hardly represents the millions of minorities who populate SoCal.
San Clemente is in the OC, an island of conservatism in a bigger minority driven voting demographic.
Well, Reagan was elected and reelected as California Governor, not so very long ago.
40 years is a long time ago.
And so, the rural and suburban life attracts the conservatives who find those things anywhere from annoying to disgusting...
OH LAZ my FRiend you do need to make a trip out here to SOCal.. and spend a few days at the beach... UMMMMMMMMMMM
“I will be moving to CA in two weeks.”

Moving from Virginia to California?
How ya going to deal with near perfect year round weather, beaches, deserts, Sierras, no brown snow, icy roads, no humidity to speak of, insects don’t resemble sparrows and good paying jobs compared to the rest of the country?
Don’t let some of these people fool ya. If most had a chance to move to California, they do it in a second. Even with it’s current political landscape, CA is the crown jewel of the entire U.S.
Like everything, political landscapes change, swing back and forth.
Look at the U.S., we went from Reagan, to Obama.

Yes, I really can’t complain. I bought a condo with a view of the Pacific, parks and walking trails everywhere. Don’t have to worry about slipping on the ice and breaking something. Best of all I will have family and grandkids close by.
Dallas Parkland Hospital leads nation in illegal immigrant births
Sherry Jacobson reports that 74 percent of the total 14,872 births at Parkland Hospital were to women who are believed to be in the country illegally.
That over 1000, illegal alien anchor babies per month, at just one Texas hospital.
Ya don't need to be a fortune teller to see what's coming for TX...Yuk yuk yuk.
BTW, see #92...Remember what I said about change?
Everything is changing, nothing stays the same....I figure I might as well live in a place with world class year round weather, and a whole lot of things to do and see.
Take care.
Very true. In 25 years, America will cease to exist as the 50-state entity we know today. Demographics are killing us.
That's what "The Big One" is for.
(Not Fred Sanford's heart attack, it's the coming big California earthquake.)
