On Wednesdays broadcast of MSNBCs Morning Joe, former Tennessee Democratic Rep. Harold Ford offered his theory on why last nights Wisconsin recall election went in Republican Gov. Scott Walkers favor: He got a little lucky.
Fords co-panelist, former Vermont Democratic Gov. Howard Dean, blamed money and Morning Joe co-host Willie Geist asked why the Democratic side is unable to match the Republican side when it comes to money, since the rules are the same for everyone.
You know, its a good question, and its one that will play out and be answered over the coming months, Ford replied. I look at a little differently than the governor does. I think the money aspect is important and was important. But I think at some level, you look at what happened in Ohio when Gov. Kasich overreached on collective bargaining rights for voters. They put [it] on the ballot, it was voted down, and he lost that and repented in many ways and changed his ways.

Yes, that is an extra little bonus: they won’t have that money to buy themselves anything else.
It’s all slipping away. Suck it, alphabet networks.
Do you have a source for the amounts spent? All I've seen in the MSM is an account of how Walker outspent Barrett 7 to 1.
Next time they'll spend less on TV and more on buses from Michigan.
I will tell you who “got lucky”, Ford. Barack Hussein Obama got lucky.
1. He had a wimp for an opponent in 2008.
2. His primary opponents were an overbearing loud mouthed woman with no private sector experience and a Breck Girl.
Obamugabe got lucky.
Yep... a fortune that went to fund supply operations, campaign infrastructure and personnel. And... sweet irony here... who's employment numbers will benefit?
HEHEHEHEHEHEH......
who’s = whose
Lucky that some left-wing fruitcake didn’t bomb his house?
Dems wasted some 36 Million on the previous recall election, and the Supreme Court election.
The Unions ALONE spent $60 Million on the Walker Recall, that has been documented in NUMEROUS media stories. The Eight Mil Barrett spent, plus the millions thrown at this in the last week, all add up.
GEE, THE MEDIA WOULDN’T BE LYING TO YOU AGAIN, WOULD THEY?
And the dead were feeling a bit lazy yesterday. And . . . .
and apathetic? LOL
LOL - you're good Cicero.
Just an observation...
Would that not be contributions to Walker exceeded Barrett 7 to 1?
If that is true and using a rough figure of 60 million, then contributions to Walker were in the 420+ million range.
I think the 7 to 1 claim is incorrect.
.
Thanks for the response. However, all I see is $10m from the Hill, as described in the following excerpt:
Unions combined to spend more than $10 million on the race and were the driving force behind the recall effort.
Are you certain this wasn't a case of erroneously adding amounts from overlapping news stories that you read?
Most media articles say Barrett raised $4m and Walker raised $30m. They're dishonestly leaving out the union number which, from the Hill, is $10m. That would make it $30m to $14m or about 2 to 1.
i guess obama got luck too with 53.7% of the vote...
Thanks for the chart. That would make the anti-Walker union number about $16m. Add on Barrett's $4m and we have Walker's $30m to Barrett's $20m, plus something that's hard to value - unlimited free and favorable media coverage for Barrett.
“Harold Ford was talking out of his armpit.”
Harold really knows something about “lucky,” he’s the only one in his family who is not in jail You just have to wonder who’s left back in Memphis running the “family funeral home.”
This is a positive sign for us but let’s not overvalue it.
