SAN DIEGO (AP) Voters in two major California cities overwhelmingly approved cuts to retirement benefits for city workers in what supporters said was a mandate that may lead to similar ballot initiatives in other states and cities that are struggling with mounting pension obligations.
Supporters had a simple message to voters in San Diego and San Jose: Pensions for city workers are unaffordable and more generous than many private companies offer, forcing libraries to slash hours and potholes to go unfilled.
"The public is frustrated," said San Diego Councilman Carl DeMaio, a Republican who staked his mayoral bid on the pension measure and advanced to a November runoff in Tuesday's election to lead the nation's eighth-largest city.
In San Diego, 66 percent voted in favor of Proposition B, while 34 percent were opposed. Nearly 97 percent of precincts were tallied by early Wednesday.
The landslide was even bigger in San Jose, the nation's 10th-largest city. With all precincts counted, 70 percent were in favor of Measure B and 30 percent were opposed.

it will not stand...one way or another, it will not stand...it can't....
of course that means millions collecting now would not be collecting, because many have never worked, worked little, are illegals, or recent immigrants,etc....
Cut library hours??? Heck get rid of libraries. A total waste of money with Kindles and Amazon. There is absolutely NO REASON for a library anymore. Barns and Noble is a place where you can go and read a book or buy one....what a concept. Taxpayers should not be providing entertainment to people. Enough is enough!!!! That would be a start that should be decided today!!!!
Benefits must be cut.
I think New York state tried charging state income tax on pensions of retirees that moved out of state. The retirees won in court.
What you were paying is taxes—they just gave it a misleading name so it would go down easier.
They are not cheating you...The gov't is...
Why is the gov't not working on some way to get the jobs back that left for China, Mexico??? Why don't we hear anything from you guys on that???
What about the billions upon billions they send of our money to our enemies??? Why are you guys silent on that???
We are going to have to support out of work Americans, one way or another...Or kill them...
I'd rather get the jobs back so they can go to work and add to the tax base...I'd like to see all illegals removed from our tax dollars and our country...
Outside of Israel, I'd like to see all foreign aid halted...
I'd like to see the elimination of the International Monetary Fund which we support with our tax dollars...I'd like to see the World Bank eliminated, that we support...
We could easily turn this country around if we had some pro America Americans running the show...
Don’t worry, you’re going to get your hate-filled, venomous wish. The whole thing is broken, haven’t you heard? There is no money in SS, it’s all been looted. Nobody will have any Federal Reserve — aka private banking cartel Monopoly money — soon.
You’re not going to get your money back, and you have no right to expect that you ever could.
The US Supreme Court case of Flemming v. Nestor in 1960 settled the issue of what SS is (a social insurance scheme is what the Court ruled) and what expectation people who have paid in can have of a return of “their” money (none - it isn’t a pension or annuity contract) and that the Congress can cut benefits any time they choose, because the Congress which passed the SS law in 1935 reserved to the Congress the power(s) to make any and all changes they see fit.
The single greatest lie perpetrated by politicians since 1960 is that Social Security benefits are “your” money. Your social security benefits (when or if you draw upon them) are money that people who are currently working pay in. You paid the benefits of people who retired before you, etc.
The Social Security, Medicare and other “entitlements” are “pay-as-you-go” schemes, exactly like a Ponzi scheme. The screamers and dreamers on the liberal side of the aisle like to claim (as they stamp their little feet) that Social Security is NOT a ponzi scheme, but the only point on which they can hang their hats is that Congress authorized Social Security and doesn’t authorize other ponzi schemes. Structurally, the SS system is absolutely a ponzi scheme, where more and more “contributors” are required to pay off the earlier contributors who are now collecting “their” money.
Liberal Courts will over-rule the will of the people. It’s what they do in Kalifornia.
yeah haha....good one !
so true!
Here in WI one thing never mentioned is that there is only one Insurance Co. providing a policy for all public school teachers (don’t know if there still is though) they set their own price all at taxpayer expense of course, also some of their profits obviously get donated to the blood sucking Unions and the Democrap party as we are told.
We don’t have a volume license for Windows 7; just a bunch of boxes that have individual licenses from Dell. We don’t use Ghost or Ghostwalker so SID-wise, I had to sysprep. Then change the license number after the unit is deployed. I did sysprep 7 and have deployed over 500 units so far.
