The idea of using a tax increase to reduce the deficit isn’t a bad one.
Problem is after they raise the tax, they don’t use it to reduce the deficit, they use it to buy more entitlements.
The whole idea of reducing the deficit gets forgotten and they spend more money.
Lets see the reductions in spending first.
So it's ok to punish the rich, and assault savings and investment which decreases the demand for labor which decreases wage rates and employment of wage earners and capital accumulation by capitalists and businessmen, by increasing taxes. I'll pass.
If you favor a flat tax that lowers marginal rates but takes away deductions like mortgage interest is that favoring a tax increase?
And we don’t want you either, Jeb.
What a useless tool he is.
lol
and with that single statement Jeb just sunk ANY chance he ever had of becoming president.
Stay out of da BUSHES!
“The brother of former President George W. Bush told a congressional panel in Washington today that he could back a theoretical deficit-reduction package that would include $1 in tax increases for every $10 in spending cuts”
Instead we’ll get $10 in tax increases for every $1 in spending cuts. No, we won’t get any spending cuts at all. We’ll have the tax increase and spending will go up and we’ll still have a deficit. That’s why nobody trusts any tax increase.
Just like immigration, how about this time we do what the right wants now for a "promise" to do what the left wants some time in the future. Cut the budget and after it has really been cut (ha!) and not just a reduced rate of increase, then maybe we'll consider raising taxes. Maybe. But the usual trick of promising $10 of future cuts from a planned baseline for $1 in immediate tax increases is just stupid.
I wonder if there is a politician left anywhere that still believes in economic growth.
Why doesn’t he back a public forum on offering “No government services that can’t be paid for out of current tax revenues” - since he’s feeling so courageous?
$1 in taxes for every $10 in spending cuts!
Who wouldn’t take that deal? Reagan took deals just like that only the spending cuts never materialized.
I say spending cuts FIRST!

Tax increases?
What’s wrong with staff reductions and elimination of unessential positions, offices and all the other things we don’t need?
Seems to me we could get rid of the SWAT teams, and the other cops could use a few less stun guns and radar. If things are serious enough to need SWAT then call the National Guard.
Also, get rid of unneeded government offices.
I would support getting that 50% of people who freeload off the federal government and pay no tax having to have some skin in the game. Our spending wouldn’t be out of control if so many Americans did not have income taxes.Other than that I would never support the increase of any tax.
You do know what "bottom line" means? If not, I'll spell it out: total gross profit minus all operating expenses = net profit. Spend more in operating expenses than you take in by sales, capital borrowing, interest, etc., means you have a negative net cash flow. Kinda remind you of a certain Country[s].
Dear Jebbie, please go back to school and study Economics 101. If that's too time consuming than buy the book, "Economics For Dummies" or try "Business Basics For Dummies". Or you can always ask your accountant what a P&L statement is.
You're just another dumb f**k who has no idea how to balance a checkbook, or you just don't want to for your own political reasons. Just switch parties and be done with it.
EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY WHO EARNS AN INCOME NEED TO PAY SOME FEDERAL INCOME TAX...TO HAVE SKIN IN THE GAME...
I have no need to worry...as our democrat clowns in DC would rather see the country collapse than tell their constitutes to get off the government teat
That is a great idea. Let’s see how the cuts work for 4 or 5 years, then we’ll discuss the tax increases.
