Fianna Fáil's infamous bank guarantee was as much about other European countries as it was about Ireland, the party admitted today.
Party leader Micheál Martin has said for the first time that Irish taxpayers were left with a 34-billion ($42.6 billion) bill for basket case Anglo Irish Bank because the Government felt pressure to save the currency.
"We did it for the euro," he told the Herald.
The admission is unlikely to sit easy with the public, who have been hit with constant austerity since October 2008.
But Martin said today that the other eurozone countries "owe Ireland".
However, he has called on voters to back Europe one more time as we are "coming to the end game".
He claimed a No vote could "push Europe over the edge".

Is there any thing more corrupt than a crooked politician?

The only things that would be more corrupt are non-human demoniac-type spirits, I’d say. All a question of power versus character, of course.

Damn them all to Hell! How many times do the Irish have to be betrayed by their putative leaders? I'm a sixth generation American, most of whose ancestors came over as Famine refugees. That was the British. This is not. This is our own.
Damn them all to Hell!!!

"Fianna Fáil finally admit truth about the bank guarantee "The first bailout of 100bn+ was Nov, 2010. Fiscal austerity was a part of the deal.
It was in all the papers. At the time everyone on line was talking about the price of the loans. The price was fiscal sovereignty. We all knew that from that time, Ireland had to get ECB permission before they could pass a budget.

As an Irish-American I couldn’t agree with you more except that what I imagine Hell to be is far too good a place for these bloodsucking devils. Perhaps there is one last rung of the place that no one talks about because the stench is too great and the fire is too hot!
