Actually before I had my Gastric Bypass surgery in 2009, I loved moon pies and grape soda. Never again for the rest of my life. ~sigh~ But it was worth it.
The first time I ever heard the term "Cracker" used as a pejorative was in my inner city high school classroom when one of my more violently active thugs lost it with my sense of class discipline and stood up howling how he was gonna kill this cracker blankety blank!
I stopped him just as he was rising to do the deed and asked him this: Wait a minute! I've been called that here a few times and I just gotta know --- are we talking Saltines here or Ritz? Cause I really like the Saltines but I'm not too wild on Ritz. The class, the entire group froze as if in disbelief and then howled with laughter. Even the punk. He was the one who said: Dude, like cracker means WHIP CRACKER as in the slave Massa! I responded with: Yeah, I understand that from your point of view such a vile creature is beneath contempt, but if you're using the term as a curse word, remember how the other person may look at it. The Massa, he was still in charge, right? If you're looking to make a person feel bad, don't accuse him of being a boss figure. Right? They listened to that one long and hard. That kid didn't act out again for the rest of the year.
