Michigan politicians met in downtown Detroit on May 14 to break ground on a new Whole Foods Market with hopes of boosting the area’s economy and bringing new jobs to the city.

The new store is said to be part of an incentive package that includes $4.2 million in state and local funds. The store will receive tax credits and promise to remain open for seven years after receiving the first installment, Spero News reported.

I thought Michigan and Detroit are broke yet they find over $4 MM to pay Whole Foods to open a store in the middle of the ghetto. Look forward to EBT users swipping their cards for $10 a pound organic and free rang chickens.

This should be hilarious - feeble, pasty vegans encountering inner-city yoots and thugs. I give the joint six months before the shut her down. The theft will be rampant and the staff will be easy pickin’s for the urban feral.

It will close very soon due to SHRINKAGE.

Definition: A reduction in inventory due to shoplifting, employee theft, paperwork errors and supplier fraud.

Although I would agree that most of Detroit is a ghetto, this area is different.

“Midtown Detroit is an area that is actually seeing some growth, even while the rest of the Motor City sees stagnation. Located in Midtown are Wayne State University, the Detroit Medical Center, the Detroit Institute of Arts and Orchestra Hall.”

The Wayne State students will be using their EBT cards there.

Ultimately it will FAIL.
Due to “shrinkage” in other words theft.

They already do at other Whole Foods locations...why not Detroit? Whole Foods doesn't want to pass up those EBT dollars. (Guaranteed sales.)

Same exact thing happened after the Rodney King riots...some big grocery chains opened stores in various places in da hood...none lasted. Same reason.

They might stay open longer if they can get a government subsidy to cover their losses.

A customer once wanted me to cook for a dinner party at his house, and took me to a Whole Foods to get what was required. It was a 6 course menu for 4 couples.

He wound up spending over $300 in food cost. That's not counting what I charged him, and got tipped by the guests. Or what I used from his wine cellar and bar.

You can bet I damn sure don't shop there when it's my money going to pay for it.

LOL. That was my first thought too, before I read the article.

“SHRINKAGE” will be most frequent used “transaction” at that war zone Detroit location.

Whole foods will take the money and run.

More wasted tax dollars.

Why anyone, much less the low income, would shop at that over priced tree hugging place is beyond me.

This is hilarious. Detroit and Michigan taxpayers have to pay over $4 million to get a grocery store to open in Detroit and politicians are bragging about what an achievement it is.

Whole Foods will probably get more incentives and one small grocery store in a city of over half a million people is almost inconsequential. But failed politicians need something, anything, to brag about.

I know many here are not fans of Whole Foods but this is a company that does not make many bad decisions and site selection for their stores is done very carefully. Regardless of subsidies, Whole Foods is just not going to site a store where the demographics don’t work. This site must have some affluent, upscale neighborhoods in the vicinity or WF would not be doing this.

LOL...since giving ghetto dwellers generous home loans worked out so fabulously, I’m sure paying high dollar businesses to locate in Darkest Detroit will be great.

Today, Whole Foods. Tomorrow, Tiffany’s. You know the locals would love to drop in on a classy jewelry store.

Hmmmm...over-priced, over-hyped food outlet opens for political correctness reasons (not because of business/demographic feasibility studies) in an already blighted and decayed inner-city...what could possibly go wrong?!

This is truly hilarious. Claiming the hood is fat, lazy and lawless due to lack of nutrition. Unless this store sells, Kools, Malt Liquor and Skittles, they’re doomed. And Whole Foods knows it. They’re opening strictly to avoid the inevitable onslaught of the race pimps and negative press.
