I don't know that the threats were that overt (although I wouldn't put anything past the thugocracy). I just think the old liberal hippie crowd was no match for the up and coming young urban killer crowd.
That said, it didn't take long for the elites to realize that the new kids on the block are too much for them to handle. They're arrogant enough, and dangerous enough, that given time, they'll have their former masters swinging by their necks.
I believe this is why they've all tacitly agreed to let Obama do himself in, and quietly move their support to Romney, who is someone who's more of a company man. He'll get the job done, stabilize their agenda, and won't assume the mindset of a dictator for life.
One of B. Cliton’s good friends was killed - shot - a week (IIRC) before the Dem convention, and he knew stuff, in fact he and someone else who also died very quickly were going to bring up the non-eligibility at the convention.
