The U.S. and French First Ladies couldn't hide their awkwardness as they posed for photos ahead of a youth centre visit in Chicago.
Michelle Obama wrapped with one arm around the waist of Valerie Trierweiler and with the other she gripped the French First Lady's hand tightly.
Towering above Miss Trierweiler, Mrs Obama was very much in control. She didn't loosen her grip as she turned to embrace the French President's partner, placing her other hand on Miss Trierweiler's back to pull her closer.
A resistant Miss Trierweiler stayed rigid and upright as Mrs Obama leaned in and offered her cheek for an air kiss.
And her fixed smile turned to a tooth-bearing grimaces.

Yes, I, too, noticed that she was wearing decent clothes for once. And, in one of the photos with the Croatian First Lady — I think — she is actually striking a graceful pose.
I never thought of her as a Rottweiler. I always think of her as a Sasquatch.
Is Hollande’s shack-up actually considered the First Lady? Very inappropriate neckline she is sporting.
In response to viewing the photo.....Much as I hate to quote the sleezebag Dan Rather, he did once say something that Moochelle should be mindful of: The Camera Never Blinks!
Moose. Sasquatch. Wookie.
All of the above.
Up close and fugley. Class versus no class.
Mr. Sarkozy should be able to find some solace in her company.
She’s wicked cute.
Hard to believe but the First lady is smiling in most of the photos!
Her clothes are nice and her weight appears down!!!
New handlers, drugs or both?
Not too bad, huh? Oh well, I’m no longer President of France. I guess I’ll go home to my mansion, riches, and model wife...
They tend to drink heavily.
Like your tag line. “1984’’.
Did Aunt Esther call the First Mistress a heatheness?
The French may like having a ‘mistress’ in their French Mansion...I find it degrading and insulting to the population as a whole in France..
tacky and tasteless..
Well I think she looks nicer in that purple dress than in most of the things she wears.
Maybe she has bear teeth.
“tacky and tasteless...”
I like it that the “Rottweiler bears her teeth” to Mooseie, but I find the French generally to be tacky and tasteless...
...and btw, I say that knowing that I have some French ancestry...
Wookie be hatin’ on Whitey.
