“A slow-moving, pot-bellied, gray-haired riot but a riot nonetheless!”
Bwaaaa! How true! Several years ago, I, along with well-known guitarist Neil Zaza and famed amp builder Dr. Z, went to a Jeff Beck concert. We were up in the balcony, so we had a good view of the backs of the audiences heads. Lotsa bald spots reflecting the spotlights! Great concert, btw!
Oh, Jeff Beck is one of my all-time favorites dating back to the 1970s! I haven’t seen him live in a long time. I hope he was good.
Johnny was the boss man. He played while seated and looked kind of frail walking out. It took a few songs for him to get warmed up and for the house to get the sound together. But he played a nice long show and by the middle of it he was on fire and sounding great!
After his set he came out with his old Gibson Firebird and did a double encore, Dust My Broom and Highway 61 Revisited. It sounded perfect! Big, loud, clear and just as down and dirty as a man could possibly want!
Johnny still has it for sure! He’s a true living legend!
