Donna Summer died Thursday after a battle with cancer. The 63-year-old Summer was known for her soaring voice and sensual purrs that made her a queen of disco when the genre was in its heyday in the 1970s. And it was a title she held well beyond those years.
A statement from her family called Summer "a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith."
"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy," according to the statement released by Universal Music, her record label. "Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
Summer had been living in Englewood, Fla., with her husband, Bruce Sudano.

Rest in peace, Donna.
A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. Always loved her music.
I had the pleasure of working for her from time to time in the late 70’s early 80’s she was wonderful and very nice and love to tease me with her cleavage RIP donna
And, evidently a real Christian, too.
“..Always loved her music.”
Her music gave a lot of people joy and FUN!
She was one of the “good girls” there was never any scandal around her. Some of her lyrics could be considered risque, but she didn’t appear to live that type of life.
Absolutely! My friends and I hit the discos every weekend back in the day - and really loved dancing to her songs!
Hated disco-loved Donna. RIP
I wasn’t a disco fan either but I bought all of her records. RIP Donna.
She apparently was a person of faith and did not die from excess living so there is no chance flags will be lowered (not that they should) like they were for Whitney.
I like her music too, which was very popular when I was in high school (Donna was the “Disco Queen” back then). And despite the attempts to make her controversial with her lyrics, she did not have scandal in her personal life. Rest in Peace, Donna.
Wonderful voice and talent.
Before or after her career in porn movies?
And, evidently a real Christian, too.

I don’t normally pay much attention to celebrities, but, about 10 years ago, I was driving somewhere and heard her being interviewed. The discussion she and the interviewer had about the sexual revolution that took hold in the 1970s would not have brought the word “Christian” to most people’s minds....
I bet working around her was something else. I always liked her music even as a young lad of the 70s.
“And, evidently a real Christian, too.
Before or after her career in porn movies?”
Different Donna Summer ... or so I am told.
Facts please.
You’ve obviously never heard her testimony. I have.
She needed some hot stuff!
