Two female students say they were not allowed to attend Lexington Catholic High School's prom as a couple Saturday night, upsetting a number of students at the school.
Hope Decker, 18, a senior, and sophomore Tiffany Wright, 16, had already gotten their dresses for the event, but Friday afternoon they were told by school administrators they could not attend as a couple because of the church's stance on same-sex relationships, Wright said.
In an email Sunday, Lexington Catholic president Steve Angelucci said, "As a Catholic high school, we uphold every teaching of the Catholic Church. The policies and procedures of our school reflect those teachings."
When the couple tried to enter the school's gymnasium, where the prom was held, they were turned away, so Wright said they held their own prom in the school's parking lot.
"I would understand and respect the school's decision if they truly upheld church teachings," Wright said Sunday night. "They didn't forbid the entrance of all the couples who've had premarital sex and all the kids who planned to get drunk after the prom."

Neither. It was "inside" Catholic humor that obviously went down in flames ;o)
That reminds me of Ronald Reagan’s remark, “I knew Thomas Jefferson; he was a good friend of mine. Senator, you’re no Thomas Jefferson!” May we all live to be as old as you and Mr. Reagan!
One of the jewelry-store Tiffanys was a hero of the Spanish-American War, but I’d be more likely to name a daughter Theodore Roosevelt than Tiffany. “Gunner Anoreth,” as she is now, narrowly missed being Lee Atwater (German last name) on her birth certificate, instead of Josephine Victoria Clare. Mr. Atwater died the day after she was born, and the vital-stats paperwork was all done.
Best wishes to your daughter on her prom dreams. I went shooting and then out to dinner with my Dad on prom night, “Frankie’s” under the Bridge-Tunnel on-ramp, best fried oysters ever. We always went there when Mom was out of town.
By the by, my only child was named Mara for the BVM. ;o)
Unitarian churches certainly have schools. They are known by such names as P.S. 666 or Horace Mann School or John Dewey School and are fully paid for by your taxes and mine.
The Unitarian church (Oh God, if there is a God or To Whom It May Concern) has two, ummm, doctrinal committees riding herd on the students, the National "Education" Association and the American Federation of "Teachers."
In that event, my apologies go out to you. May God bless you and yours!
2. I knew Lee Atwater personally in Young Republicans. Fret not. Josephine Victoria Clare is a better idea by far.
May God continue to bless you and yours.
I was a young Republican myself in those days, only 24. My more historically-minded friends caught the irony of naming her after two empresses and the original “Poor Lady,” but I still think there might be a religious vocation when she’s done her Militaristic Period.
God is much, much kinder to us than we merit, so we’ll just carry on ;-). The formerly tiny baby Kathleen Amelia is almost 4 months old and weighs 17 lbs., and the number-one son William Jesse (grandfather’s and great-grandfather’s names) has a summer job!
Even if that were somehow evident, teens getting drunk isn't a sin. It's illegal in most states, but it's not a sin in the Catholic Church.
special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, .. aw, man I’m gonna puke.
Always good to see you resurface to share your wit and wisdom..
BTTT!
True.
True.
True.
True.
True.
Oh.
In my day, this would just be an example of two chicks who couldn’t get a date.
