Many American Indian tribes called themselves "The People" as in better than all other tribes. So tribe X, Y and Z all thought they were unique and the best and that their sorry tribal religion was the best. Muslim think their and their cult is the pinnacle of being human. I hear the Mormons think they are the best. Jews call themselves "Chosen" to obey a unique Covenant
