A day after Mitt Romney said he was fine with gay adoption, he took it back. Suddenly, its not fine.
He said on Thursday: And if two people of the same gender want to live together, want to have a loving relationship, or even to adopt a child in my state, individuals of the same sex were able to adopt children. In my view, thats something that people have a right to do. But to call that marriage is something that, in my view, is a departure from the real meaning of that word.
On Friday,he was asked, in an interview with CBS affiliate WBTV in Charlotte, N.C., how his opposition to gay marriage squared with his support for gay adoptions. Romney told anchor Paul Cameron, Well, actually I think all states but one allow gay adoption,

No flip-flop, but a real major contradiction, perhaps?
So Romney comes out in opposition to gay marriage, but does not oppose gay adoption, and that’s not supposed to raise eyebrows with the evangelicals?
Guess not with the “leadership” that endorses him; with the vast majority of Christian voters it may be problematic.
“ROMNEY FLIP-FLOPS ON GAY ADOPTION”
Give him a break...evolving ain’t easy.
To the headline: not a big surprise, Romney takes at least five positions on every issue.
That’s not the flip flop though, the flip flop was he seemed to say people have a right to gay adoption, now he backed away from that.
Really think the lesson is don’t get sidetracked with this stuff, stick with the economy.
He didn’t flip flop - he evolved!
You’re a Ron Paul booster, declared so much back in January. Why not be honest about your intentions when you joined back then? It’s okay to support Paul, but to be sorta sneaky about Romney stinks. You weren’t even a Cain or Newt supporter.
Well what’s new?
Romney doesn’t have an honest bone in his body.
He is the ultimate Used-Car Salesman and will say whatever he thinks you want to hear.
Judging by his record as Governor of Massachusetts where he implemented the following:
1. Gay Marriage
2. Carbon Cap-and-Trade system
3. “Assault” Weapons ban
4. Socialized Medicine
5. Raised taxes/fees by $700 million dollars
His core convictions are Progressive Liberal.
But as Ann Romney will attest and has stated publically, he will argue any side of the position and you’d think he really believes in that position, but he doesn’t.
I've read on Free Republic (don't recall the poster) that Romney has “daddy issues” and needs to become president so pops will be proud of him.
I thought his dad was dead.
Even if he is dead, maybe Romney and his “issues” propel him to get the presidency because presidency trumps governor.
Just sayin’...
In August 2003, he said he favored “adoptive parent rights” for gay couples. This was in the Lawrence Eagle (MA newspaper).
Then there is this:

but I can find no reference to the MA state law “requiring” that every adoption agency place kids with gays.
I agree. On one day he’s making statements against it, the next day he’s saying, but it’s already legal almost everywhere, wayagunnadoo?
Yeah, I thought the article failed to support the headline.
You can roll manure in powdered sugar but that don’t make it a jelly doughnut
Wow1 I just re-read your statement a couple of times. As someone who lost their father in the last year and a half, you are way off base, at least in my life.
I wouldn’t “presume” what a dead person would say.
“Really think the lesson is dont get sidetracked with this stuff, stick with the economy.”
Yeah, but there’s no way to do that. The media just won’t let you, and Romney is a compulsive talker and explainer anyway.
Is there any way he can be dragged across the finish line against Obama?
This stuff isn't a sidetrack. It's the main track.
A man IS his character, his values, his morality.
And Romney floats with every wind that blows one way or another.
You think he'll be any different with the economy? Heck no.
Not just Free Republic. It's a national trend and has been all week long. Today (Mother's Day) "gay" is only second to "mom".
It's what Obama and the democrats have been wanting all along. They need to avoid the real issue: The Economy.
Question is: Will his opponent bite? (no pun intended)
Bunch of revelations coming Mitt’s way eh?
Where were these Mormon angels of prophecy years ago when this bishop was clueless? Pardon the cynicality, although if Mitt has to flip it could be worse than to flip in the opposite direction from Barack Obama’s moves. Barack Obama is an example of getting almost everything wrong.
Do you have a link to the 2003 article? Thanks, DBrow

have not heard that word for awhile.
:)
Not yet. If you search for 2003 “adoptive parent rights” romney , you get articles mentioning it, but not the original. It came from a small newspaper chain that probably does not have deep storage.

“Well, not in so many words. But he has backed these unions just the same. In August 2003, Governor Romney told the editorial board of the Lawrence (MA) Eagle Tribune that although “marriage should be between a man and a woman,” he also believes that “those in domestic partnerships should have medical insurance rights, survivor benefits, child visitation and adoptive parent rights—the same civil rights married couples enjoy.” In other words, the equivalent of marriage.

“ISSUE: Oppose homosexual couples adopting children? Romney: NO. Documentation: As Governor, Romney spoke in favor of adoptive parent rights (2003) and children born to same-sex couples, and adopted by same-sex couples (2005), stated homosexuals have a legitimate interest to adopt children (2006), awarded Parents of the Year recognition to two homosexual men who had adopted a boy (2006), and recently reaffirmed his support for states that permit homosexual adoptions (2011).” [personally I doubt he’s deceiving Americans]
