If you can organize 10,000 people then you have it made. Even a 1,000 would be enough if your community is still the biggest fish in the pond.

Yes, that is true. A lone wolf still can survive, but a lone wolf with kids and wife and things has not much of a chance in the long term. IMO, prepping gives you only few things, such as:

• Resources to survive disruption of food supplies
• Resources to defend himself and his family until the society reorganizes. If you know your neighbors it can be quick; if you live in an apartment building it may take a while.
• Tradeable goods (food, ammo, medical supplies) that you can use to buy whatever else you need

It is important to remember that the "larger community" has only what its members have. So if nobody preps then your whole 10,000 strong group will be hungry. Lack of supplies is a physical, material fact, and no organizing can grow a cow in a week. Those supplies have to come from somewhere. Perhaps there are hunters in your community and plenty of deer around the town; perhaps someone knows how to fish with a net and there are fishing boats available; but if not then you are still hungry, even if you have thousands of people at your command.
