” So true. More people were farmers during the Great Depression...my parents and their parents were all farmers. “

I’ve alwaus contended that the second wave of the Zombie Hordes will consist of the Slacker ‘Professional’ Class - much more dangerous, as they can whine ya to death from out of bullet range... ;)

Thanks for the information. We're in similar areas, thus my screen name, LOL!

Now for the next question: Do you put ammo inside them?
And if so, what do you use to suck up unwanted moisture, or is that even an issue once it's underground? How about canned goods? I'd think the seams might rust out...

We have construction around us so I'm now officially on patrol for PVC!

My culinary skills aren’t so impressive. I am required to assume the role of “Dishboy” on camping adventures. I’m told I need to serve up a respectable Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner before I can shake that role . . .

I did a lot of skullery duty. And I learned my first month as a kitchen manager one important rule:

DON'T FIRE THE DISHWASHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SHIFT!

Skullery *itches are important. And well respected if they do their job well and show up sober.

Ammo too.

I usually turn the dehumidifier on in the packing room a couple hours before packing and sealing. That has worked well for me.

Note to self: Buy dehumidifier!

Is pouring human waste into sewers an option for disposing of it?

Only if you have sufficient water. Without flushing water, sewer pipes will clog within a couple of weeks if everyone goes the "nearest manhole" route.

My main problem is 7 months of sub-zero temps in a 1980s house with no fireplace. Can’t talk my hubbie into a wood burning stove (plenty of firewood).

Along those lines, two ways to get more bang for your buck on groceries -- no, make it three.

1) If you have a discount store, USE IT. Aldi's is around 30% - 40% less than other stores, if you can get over the horror of non-name-brand items. Costco is good for some things in general, but can be beat by coupons at other stores.

2) Coupons. I'm not a coupon whisperer or anything, but I typically save 30%-40% on regular grocery store items by matching double coupon days to sales. Try the site http://www.livefabuless.com and look for coupon matchups.

3) For some items -- vitamins, gluten-free, etc., try amazon.com or vitacost.com or iherb.com or swanson.com.

Cheers!

Where/how do you store it? That’s the part that makes me nervous.

That’s ridiculous.

If you have Homeowner’s Insurance do you hope your house gets destroyed?

New Orleans showed how great the community is at getting together.
