Israel will not be invited to NATO's May 20-21 summit in Chicago, the alliance's top official said Friday. But he denied that alliance member Turkey had blocked Israel's participation.
Instead, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the reason is because Israel does not participate in NATO's main military missions.
News reports have claimed that Turkey blocked Israel's participation because of the raid in 2010 by Israeli troops on ships heading to Gaza in which eight Turks and a Turkish-American died.
NATO has a system of partnerships with dozens of nations across the globe such as the Mediterranean Dialogue, a NATO outreach program with seven friendly nations, including Israel.
In the past, partner nations did not usually attend the alliance's summits. But Fogh Rasmussen said 13 would do so this time.
"At the Lisbon summit (in 2010), we made clear that we would enhance dialogue and cooperation with partner nations ... because in today's world security challenges know no borders, and no country or alliance can deal with most of them on their own," he told journalists.

I see; what is “NATO” about those countries?
Nothing NATO, imo an outdated institution about them. They’re invitees. Some support “us” in Afghanistan, some don’t. And for what it’s worth, the administration says Israel was never invited, thus Turkey couldn’t have barred them. The entire exercise is silly. Watch the news coverage next week. Bet there’s ten words at least for the protests for a single word about what NATO is attempting to accomplish.
I’m sure you’re right.
That’s what happens when you let the European Union take over control of NATO. From Bosnia on down, just one disaster after another.
“More please.”
You betcha. Israel has signed a tentative agreement with a Russian company to build gas and electrical lines from the Mediteranian Sea and through Cyprus to provide Europe with energy. This agreement cuts out the existing gas lines from Turkey and Russia. I think it’s getting interesting.
It sure is a good thing that The LORD is completely able to do what He will and isn't at all controlled by the big ideas and notions of the world's faithless, clueless peoples.
Something evil lurks there.
I know. I sometimes wonder that I lived only about 150 miles from the evil city that birthed the political entity Obama. To think that he was only that many miles from me for years. Very weird feeling!
