He had a very narrow window of opportunity to take control of the situation, and he had to shoot while his wife was in a headlock and the other perp was menacing him.

I've read that the best instructors don't teach to shoot at a target from a distance. They teach to shoot at point blank range first which is where most stand your ground situations take place.

The shooting-your-wife-to-defend-her situation is one in which it’s nice to have a .45 and not just the 12 ga. Even the most understanding wife might get irritable about being blasted with buckshot.

I was going to say the same thing. My father used to say that the only way to hit the side of a barn with one of those was if you were standing inside the barn. But then he shot with one hand, arm extended.

She’ll forgive, but you can bet your bottom dollar she won’t forget.

“Oh, your daughter looks so pretty graduating from college. She was the one born 2 months, 6 days and seven hours after my husband shot me in the arm.”

Depends on whether the state where it occurred is a capital murder state.

Not all are.

I think the .45 is really hard to shoot, darn thing is too big

I shoot much better with a 1911. The weight of the pistol steadies my hand. I also find the 1911 very easy to shoot and not the least bit complex. Due to its design accidental discharges are a sign of massive stupidity on the user of the weapon. The 1911 does not go bang unless you want it to go bang. Also when you want it to go bang, it will go bang! Also a 45ACP powerball ammunition by Corbon will mess you up bad!

Take some classes and learn how to "run the gun."

.

.

Then you can learn how to "run the gun" accurately with a 41 ounce 1911.

Try one that has been worked on by a good gun smith. The are smooth and bad.

Why? This stock, out-of-the-box, Smith & Wesson...

.

Produced these results...

I've read that the best instructors don't teach to shoot at a target from a distance. They teach to shoot at point blank range first which is where most stand your ground situations take place.

You're reading BS. The best instructors teach you how to use your sights. It's one aspect of learning how to run the gun so the bullet hits its intended target. Any moron can pick up a weapon and pull the trigger.

The most important part of running the gun, is safety...

I personally take two training classes a year from guys like Jarrett and Smith.

Sights don’t mean much at less than 3 feet.

Beautiful gun. My G23 is maybe not so pretty but it will put you in the ground just as fast.

"It’s one of the smallest pistols out there, by far the slimmmest." Ummmm, no, not even close. This Kahr CM9 I bought my daughter for her birthday is pretty small but it's still far from the smallest.

“oh well i am thinking of the .45 I had to practice at the range with in the Army. Impossible to shoot”

Many of the 1911A1 pistols that the Army used to train with were nearly worn out and difficult to shoot. I particularly remember coaching an officer who just couldn't get the pistol to discharge. I had her shift her grip so that the grip safety was pressed in more firmly. Then the pistol would fire. At one point before that, she was pressing on the trigger so hard that the gun was visibly shaking.

It was simply a mechanical problem with that particular gun.

Try a 1911 that is in good shape, and you will likely be pleasantly surprised. I was issued one for a divisional competition one time. It looked like it had been made in 1946 and never been carried or issue, it looked so mint. It shot like a dream, and I shot the overall high score for the divisional (leg) match with it.

Thank you, the others were convinced it was operator error. I can shoot with a decent pistol at the range and now that my eyes are fixed I can shoot well.
