Olympic axe for Argie star who trained on Falklands war memorial
The Sun ^ | 9th May 2012 | Andrew Snell

'THE Argentinian Olympic athlete who sparked outrage after he was shown in an ad doing step-ups on a British war memorial in the Falklands is set to miss the London games.

Hockey player Fernando Zylberberg has been quietly ditched from the team ahead of their final warm up event in Malaysia later this month.

Argentina was condemned around the world after it broadcast the insulting clip last week.

It ended with the slogan: "To compete on English soil we train on Argentine soil."

Zylberberg has been left out of the 18-man squad for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in the Southeast Asian country.

And without an appearance at the tournament, which begins next week, he is almost certain to not make the cut for London.'

A really screwed up ad.

Maybe someone ought to run an ad showing the Belgrano sinking with the tagline: In order to train to swim for the Argentine Team, one must first get a soft push into the water.

If the guy wanted to make a statement he should have stood in front of the Military Cemetery on the Falklands, where all the Argentinian soldiers are buried and demand to know why the government of Argentina refused (and still refuses) to repatriate their war dead!

Meanwhile, Kirchner laughs about the whole episode.

The Argentines probably shouldn't try to aggravate the Brits

A father of one of my daughter's team mate on the soccer team fought in the Argentine army. He said it was the most frightening thing he ever experienced. Shelling from artillery was the worst but the thing that really led to their "agreement to stop hostilities" was that the commanders had been informed that the , 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles were high or drunk and killing people. It was propaganda I'm sure that the Brits didn't discourage, but it must have been a hell of a fight.

Lots of bravery on both sides, but it was war and the Brits won that one.

I'm not sure that the Argentines want to do another round of this. Once the Brits grab onto a bone and get their nose bloodied, they're nasty bastards. I'm not even bringing the Gurkhas into the mix. But who'd want to screw with those bloody little buggers.

I would hope cooler heads would prevail. Was thinking maybe Kirchner would emerge from her cancer surgery a changed woman. Nothing like coming to terms with one's own mortality to correct past character flaws. Unfortunately, seizing Spanish cos., engaging in provocative mischief, are not the type of behavior I was pulling for.

This time around, Brits will be no more Mr. Nice Guy. I suspect they will go downtown Buenos Aires. And man for man, no better trained Army exists today than the British Army. And they always have the Australians and what sane person wants to jack with them?

Wishing that the Brits would show their toughness on their muslim occupiers.

But then again, we are a bunch of pushovers, ourselves. (Sigh)

The "troubles" haven't started yet. Give it time.... These muzzies are tough and mean when it comes to killing unarmed civilians, blowing up children, kidnapping and any other form of terror. But as soon as you stick them in a pen and let some dogs gnaw on them...well they're not so tough. They're hiding behind lawyers, democrats and traitors now in this country. In England they're hiding behind communists and the socialists in power that are cowards and appeasers.

The brits can be right tough bastards when pushed and if they're country is really overrun I'm thinking that there'll be a blood letting that the muzzies won't soon forget.

. In this country if the SHTF they forget what we did to the japanese here in this country and to their homeland.

I'm all for going Crusader on the muzzies.

I love you, man.
LOL.

America has the most powerful army.
But imo the best pound for pound are the British and the Israelis.

During the Falklands war, the Royal Marines were sent to the South Atlantic in their autumn. They had just come off winter training in Norway and still had all their winter gear. A lot of the Argie soldiers were drawn from some of their “jungle regiments” who’d been in garrison along Argentina’s northern border with Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia. When they got to the theater, they still had their jungle kit and were totally unprepared for warfare in those inhospitable latitudes.

I can imagine that the Argentine troops were brave but just out matched with a more professional army/navy/air force.

If the Brits had decided to get nasty they would have taken the war to the mainland and knocked Argentina back to pre-electrical times.

I'd personally like that to happen to Chavez and the rest of the tin horn, Castro wannabes.

Would’ve been no contest. The Argie Air Force gave a pretty good account of themselves but the largely conscript Army, not so much.

The Argentine Air Force did some serious damage, but also took some big hits. This played out as a large scale conventional war with big toys getting used and some resulting big losses. Like the two British landing craft that weren't given adequate air cover that got blown to pieces.

The thing that really surprised me was what the guy said about the british artillery just blowing the crap out of their lines from fixed and naval sources. He says that they literally got in holes and prayed for their lives cause there's not much you can do when everything around you is exploding. Then the rumors started about the Gurkhas chopping off heads and playing soccer with them.

He says the officers looked for the first person that they could surrender to after the main ground fighting took hold.
