Barack Obama continues to frustrates the LGBT community and its supporters by not coming out and endorsing same-sex marriage, despite his approving of civil unions. The question many have is whether he hasn't done so because of a political judgment about the possible costs and benefits involved. In which case, how would it break for the president's campaign to back marriage equality?
Despite Obama's well-publicised claim that his personal view is "evolving", there seems to be underlying assumption among same-sex marriage advocates that the president privately does support same-sex marriage, but that he is afraid to admit it for fear of his electoral prospects. That belief relies on two facts.
One, Obama supposedly filled out a candidate questionnaire in 1996 for state senate where he gave "unequivocal support for gay marriage". Obama claims that, in fact, a campaign staffer, not he, filled it out. He did not, however, try to correct his published position when the newspaper that sponsored the survey published his pro same-sex marriage position.

yep ... the one (zer0) is scared. Have some dog meat zer0! Can see November from this house.
Obama is in a catch 22, either way he loses.
I wouldn’t say “nothing to fear” — but I might say he has “nothing to lose” from outright support. He also has nothing to gain.
Gay groups already support him. Christian and traditional demographics already won’t support him for the most part. And, everybody pretty much knows where he stands ... and knows that he hasn’t the spine to own it.
That’s really the only change I could see from him stating outright what everyone already knows he believes — it’d take spine that he doesn’t possess. Sprouting a spine might help him a bit ... but I don’t see any votes being won or lost on this that haven’t been won or lost already.

“Obama claims that, in fact, a campaign staffer, not he, filled it out.”
WOW, zero’s been blaming others since 1996.
Yeah, it’s tough to vote “present” when you’re the president and in the national spotlight ... heh!heh!
Rush is talking about it now. Even Blue areas of NC voted for the amendment. If he comes out and admits he supports gay marriage then he has just drove the nail in his own political coffin but if he doesn’t then the Gay Libs, and there’s a lot of them, will also ditch him.
“Barack Obama continues to frustrates the LGBT community and its supporters by not coming out....”
I think most of the “blue” areas that vote against gay marriage are black neighborhoods. I don’t think he’ll lose the black vote over disagreement about gay marriage. Obama could commence carpet-bombing of every MLK Blvd. in the US and still win 90%+ of the black vote.
Still ... I’ve been wrong before. Maybe Rush is right and there is a groundswell of “blue” areas that wouldn’t vote for Obama if he explicitly supported gay marriage.

We should encourage the Gay lobby to vote for Gary Johnson...
Pass the popcorn.
Marriage equality..., is a joke. As anyone who has been married for any length of time can tell you. But, no one has denied it for homosexuals. Gay men are as equal as straight men. Let them marry a woman and find out. Same thing goes for gay woman.
...Marriage represents a contract between a man and a woman and their families, present and future. Gay marriage makes a mockery out of that contract, and a vast majority of people don’t want it. We also don’t want homosexuals in our schools teaching our kids how to be queers. That doesn’t mean we don’t like you, or that we don’t sympathize with your plight in life, or with your families. It means we aren’t interested in having you pervert the institution of marriage, and we don’t want you spreading your perversion in our public schools.
Obama’s worried that he’s going to win the same number of states as Mondale (1)...or maybe McGovern (2)...not a good number out of 57.
But the bear trap is caught on his leg now...if he makes New York, California, Vermont and Massachutsetts gays happy he just cements his loss of the heartland and the south in even bigger numbers. If he pisses them off, he’ll lose the heartland anyway and endanger himself even in those liberal sanctuaries.
It is just making him look stupid because everybody KNOWS that he really supports it, and this is just kabuki theater intended to keep the black churches quiet till after the election.
Amendment 1 was soundly approved banning s/s marriage. Only 7 counties voted against. These of course is where the enlightened voters live.
He is going to lose whichever way he says he sides on.
the gays will never ditch him...
the black churches,,and the muslims
