FRANKFORT, Ind. Sen. Dick Lugar is accusing tea party members of trespassing on his family farm and erecting Retire Lugar signs on the eve of the Senate primary.
The six-term Republican incumbent said Monday he was alerted by his son that members of the Owen County tea party climbed over a fence at his Marion County farm to take down his campaign signs and put up their own.
[They] had their pictures taken in front of a sign that said, Dick Lugar, tree farmer of the year, 2003, Lugar said during a stop at an assisted living facility, speaking from notes to recount the episode to reporters. Then they had the audacity to put this on their Twitter accounts and Twitter it out so that everybody would know that these people had trespassed our farm.
Lugar said his farm fence was damaged not badly but nevertheless [they] came over the fence to get our signs and deliberately put up these signs out on the farm. A call and email to an Owen County tea party official was not returned.
I think this is unfortunate but is indicative of the kind of campaign weve run up against and I just wanted you all to know, Lugar said. Im not going to file charges, Im busy running for election. I think most people would find this to be audacious and an affront. Lugar is in the midst of a three-city swing north of Indianapolis, which included stops at a waste water treatment facility and Elks Club.
Richard Mourdock, the state treasurer and favorite heading into Tuesdays election, began his day at the Elkhart Rotary Club. He will conclude his campaign day with a meeting at a Presbyterian church in West Lafayette.
Despite a radio report indicating he would anticipate eventually supporting the nominee, Lugar said he had made no comment about endorsing Mourdock if he loses Tuesday.
Ive indicated that we still have an election going on, he said. Im not going to do a postmortem.
Relax. Dick... It’s not like they were trying to blow up a bridge...
He wasn’t able to attend the 2003 award ceremony because of senatorial duties, but—here it comes, are you ready? Are you sure?—he personally prunes hundreds of trees every year.

In which part of Virginia is this “family farm”?
All joking aside: I’ll bet a dollar that this is not Lick Dugar’s farm. It belongs to some cousin or other member of Dugar’s extended “family.”
When there is flak, you are over the target. Another egotistical Sin-ator who thinks the taxpayers work for him. Bye bye RINO. Flushed at the voting booth.
Have just an ounce of dignity Lugar and leave.
I wonder what're the chances he'll change sides if he's primaried out?
Not very good, I expect.
Denial - Anger - Bargaining - Depression - Acceptance
Agreed!
I am disappointed by some of the responses here. If it had been a bunch of Occu-tards trespassing on a Conservative’s property everyone would be totally indignant about this.
We need to be consistent about this. Private property means DON’T GO THERE WITHOUT PERMISSION!
I’m disappointed that at this point anyone would believe Dick Lugar.
They could have put up a sign of Rowan and Martin saying...
"Say Goonight Dick", Goonight Dick"
Really, this does not bode well for Sen. Lugar’s primary chances. I hope by 10 pm tomorrow night he's out on his Alfa Sierra Sierra.
That’s not the point. My feelings regarding private property remain the same whether it’s Dick Lugar, Allan West, Sarah Palin or Nancy Pelosi. Private property means PRIVATE PROPERTY.
When he’s defeated and looking for a new gig, he won’t have to make up a Porno Name.
Two words: Lisa Murkowski
Agree 100% on that point, I just don’t believe it happened.
Well, the ‘Tea Partiers’ were surely uncouth and careless of property rights, but were they really Tea Partiers, or is this the sort of last-minute manufactured ‘outrage’ that happens just before the voting starts? A ‘dirty trick’ disguised as a ‘dirty trick’?
Washingtonians Raus!
Free states like Indiana can pick off degenerates like Lugar, outlook on the whole with respect to saving the Republic via the Electoral Process is highly questionable due to Universal Suffrage .
