The United States has for several years been secretly releasing high-level detainees from a military prison in Afghanistan as part of negotiations with insurgent groups, a bold effort to quell violence but one that U.S. officials acknowledge poses substantial risks.

He's also done it in such a way that not many would know about it, and he refuses to even say if he's the one who decided to do it.
"U.S. officials would not say how many detainees have been released under the program, though they said such cases are relatively rare. The program has existed for several years, but officials would not confirm exactly when it was established."
Lots more in the article.
Appeasement is always a winner when it comes to dealing with radical extremists who want to subjugate and destroy us. // sarcasm
We are so augured
This quack in the White House embraces the terrorist mooselimb cult. These people in Washington are nothing but a cluster fluge of feckless crapweamsels.
I think I get it now. Our foreign policy is being run by Monty Python.
Crap like this, Egypt handed to Islamists and Israel in jeopardy, Russia threatening to attack NATO ...
This leftist idiot Obama just might get us all killed.
Mudslimes would never lie, even though the queeranus commands them to.
Words fail me...
I don’t even think Carter was this fricking STOOPID!
Danegeld works for a while, until you run out of geld — or in this case, islamopiggies.
The monsters he releases will strike at us again one day and will never buy us any good will.
There is no changing the nature of this enemy.
Obama is a fool.
Strangest use I've ever seen of the word "bold". But hey, it's all doubleplusgood.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
This leftist idiot Obama just might get us all killed.
We’ve never been in more danger. Never.
And the Surge in Afghanistan was for what? Let’s look at the timing, from;
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/feinstein-rogers-say-taliban-stronger-since-surge/2012/05/06/gIQALbQh6T_story.html
The leaders of the House and Senate intelligence committees said Sunday they believe that the Taliban has grown stronger since President Obama sent 33,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan in 2010.
Carter was indeed STOOPID, incompetent and naive. Obama knows what is he is doing and even scary in that he knows precisely what he is doing and destroying America in the process.
This is a fool’s errand. At best, it will be negotiating from a point of weakness in the eyes of an intractable enemy and an ineffectual and corrupt ally (i.e. Karzai and his government). At worst, it is giving aid to that enemy.
In either case, two things come immediately to mind. First and most obviously, the released prisoners will likely go right back to what they were doing before - trying to kill U.S. and allied forces, promises or not. Secondly, those that do honor their agreement are likely to do so with the intent to periodically demand concessions, aid, or other payoffs to remain “peaceful”.
However, this controversial exchange program 'has been in existence for years.'
Interesting.
A 100% chance of something happening is never a "risk"; it's called "a sure thing".
Appeasement is never "bold". It is always "chickensh!t".
Let's assume (yeah, I know) that there was actual thought behind this "bold" plan. What do the designers think is going to happen? Achmed is going to go back home and renounce his ingrained hatred of the "Great Satan"?
Even if he was as stupid as the crafters of this ingenious program, and was brainwashed into giving up his jihad, do they believe his fellow Muslims would listen to his pleas to stop fighting and lay down their arms??
Who's driving this @#$% bus??
