When we moved to Panama City, FL in 1951, I was 4 years old. I remember Andy Griffith appeared somewhere at the Dixie Sherman Hotel doing some of his comic routines.

I didn’t get to see him but I remember the radio played a few of them. I still remember one called: “What is was, was football” or something like that. It was pretty funny. He was just getting to be known at the time.

You can get that recording (about football) on Amazon (less than $6.00). It is on this album Wit & Wisdom of Andy Griffith [Original recording reissued, Original recording remastered]

He was funny in No Time for Sergeants too. TCM plays that movie from time to time.
