There is a lot of religious hate being spewed here Jim , and I don't understand why you allow it.Land of the free, home of the brave, and the freedom to worship freely, or not. Please, many of us just want the vile anti-mormon threads to just disappear.

Like too many other veteran posters, I have gone silent and withdrawn from FreeRepublic. I have done so for the reasons quoted above, for the ban on positively discussing Presidential candidates, and for the generous "truce"/permission to discuss them again.

Despite my reluctance to rejoin conversation, I cannot leave a fine conservative veteran poster, like eastforker, left hanging alone.

This delight in religion bashing being advocated & viciously defended, is absolutely un-American. It has been allowed to go on way too long. Both those who engage in it, and those who allow it personally turn my stomach.

Eastforker, speaks for a great many here, and for a great many that used to be here. Salute.

Since you pinged me, from what I understand, it was very bad back in 2007-2008. Diehard Romney supporters were quite a nasty bunch.

The GOP wanted Romney, and they got him-—thanks to their maneuvering of rules, their intention to set him up from the beginning as inevitable, and thanks to the idiots who voted for him in the primaries. The fact that Romney’s religion is being dissected should come as no surprise. It’s on a par with Scientology.

We didn’t vet the last guy to occupy the White House, and look what happened. I think people have a right to know about Romney’s religion. I agree that we have to stop tearing people apart. But that doesn’t have to happen if we use a little restraint.

EF is a hardline admitted atheist. Period.

EF is a Atheist Bigot. And, IMO has his own little agenda here...and that is to stop all religious talk/debate.

The very fact you "find" debate, facts, defense, discussion..un-American is frankly UN-AMERICAN!!

An attack on a religion, or a lack of religion, for no other reason except to trash it, IMHO, is very un-American [Eastforker, post #157]

To me, to heartily bash Americans as "un-American" is not only reminscent of McCarthy's committee of "un-American" activities, but is one of the worst "bashes" you can make on a thread that surrounds a focus on a "Free Republic."

Beyond that, it's a self-refutation when both of these posters are seemingly concerned about the "bashing" going on of those they bash as "un-American."

Sure. If somebody wants to come here with their virtual pulprit and preach, "Thou shalt not bash." By all means...proceed...But you know...we expect preachers to practice the "non-bashing." We don't expect the preachers of "non-bashing" to try to lead a bashing choir...[see post #395 for yet another bash of Reaganaut's religious principles]

Otherwise it comes across as Ghandi preaching non-violence, all as he commits it!

This delight in religion bashing ...

Brigham Young...

"For unbelievers we will quote from the Scriptures - "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God." Again - "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God."

I will now give my scripture - "Whosoever confesseth that Joseph Smith was sent of God to reveal the holy Gospel to the children of men, and lay the foundation for gathering Israel, and building up the kingdom of God on the earth, that spirit is of God; and every spirit that does not confess that God has sent Joseph Smith, and revealed the everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Antichrist.......

 - BrighamYoung

Here's some MORE for MORMON's...

"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned; and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given, and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

- JoD 3:266 (July 14, 1855)

It is true that the earth was organized by three distinct characters, namely, Eloheim, Yahovah, and Michael, these three forming a quorum, as in all heavenly bodies, and in organizing element, perfectly represented in the Deity, as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Again, they will try to tell how the divinity of Jesus is joined to his humanity, and exhaust all their mental faculties, and wind up with this profound language, as describing the soul of man, "it is an immaterial substance!" What a learned idea! Jesus, our elder brother, was begotten in the flesh by the same character that was in the garden of Eden, and who is our Father in Heaven. Now, let all who may hear these doctrines, pause before they make light of them, or treat them with indifference, for they will prove their salvation or damnation.

I have given you a few leading items upon this subject, but a great deal more remains to be told. Now, remember from this time forth, and for ever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost.

- JoD 1:50-51 (April 9, 1852)

The rank, rabid abolitionists, whom I call black-hearted Republicans, have set the whole national fabric on fire. Do you know this, Democrats? They have kindled the fire that is raging now from the north to the south, and from the south to the north. I am no abolitionist, neither am I a proslavery man; I hate some of their principles and especially some of their conduct, as I do the gates of hell. The Southerners make the negroes, and the Northerners worship them; this is all the difference between slaveholders. and abolitionists. I would like the President of the United States and all the world to hear this.

Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so.

- JoD: vol.10 p. 110: (March 8, 1863)

It looks like BrighamYoung was pretty good at bashings.

In honor of the sentiments expressed above, 'tis overdue for...

The Freeper Hypocritical Oath [Articles of Religious 'Faith' for Atheists & Buddhists Desiring to add another 'Face']

1. "Thou shalt not bash."
2. "If thy bash, thout art unabashadly 'Un-American' (or ______ fill-in-the-blank)"
3."Yes, this kind of name-calling, too (in #2) is indeed bashing religious people. ('Tis no way to get around, tho, we've tried)"
4. "But, hey, we can get away with it. We not only don't hold ourselves to the same standards we pin upon others...(Hence, the title), but we're the favored elitist bashers 'round these parts...We're so good at it we bash and nobody seems to know it!"
5. "We, after all, have a license to bash religious posters as 'Un-American' (or ________ fill-in-the-blank)

Signed...Certain Sentimentalists
