Bad News for Obama: Democrats Have a Registration Problem
TIME ^ | 05/05/2012 | ADAM SORENSEN

Demographics will doom Republicans in the out years, Democrats like to say. A coalition of Black and Latino voters along with the socially moderate youth bloc is quickly becoming the left’s safety net, even in tight elections. But as the Washington Post reported Friday, there’s a problem:

[T]his is the first time in nearly four decades that the number of registered Hispanics has dropped significantly. That figure fell 5% across the country, to about 11 million, according to the Census Bureau. But in some politically important swing states, the decline among Hispanics, who are considered critical in the 2012 presidential contest, is much higher: just over 28% in New Mexico, for example, and about 10% in Florida. … In total, the number of registered blacks and Hispanics across the country declined by 2 million from 2008 to late 2010, when the Census Bureau collected the data through its Current Population Survey. The figure among blacks is down 7%, to just over 16 million. Among whites, it dropped 6% to 104 million. Here’s why this is potentially disastrous for Obama:

For one, whites break more evenly than Latinos or Blacks do. Obama lost whites to John McCain by 12 points in 2008, but won Latinos by 36 points and blacks by an overwhelming 91 points. That means the effect of the drop in registration among whites is relatively diffuse, while the effect of a similar drop among Blacks and Latinos is much more pronounced for Democrats.

Another factor is what’s behind the drop in the first place: Most people lose their registration when they move between communities, and those likeliest to pick up and leave town are young, a slice of the population Obama won by 34 points in 2008, and those displaced by economic hardship.

Zimmerman(n) is sometimes a Jewish name, sometimes not. I don't know of any evidence that George Zimmerman is of Jewish ancestry (he is Catholic by religion). Some of the civil rights activists with a history of anti-Semitic remarks started saying he was Jewish and other people have picked that up.

George Zimmerman was the first American to be called a "white-Hispanic." That was before it became known that he is part black (Afro-Peruvian).

Democrats have never had a problem with the unregistered who, one way or the other, manage to vote on election day. Does anyone believe that, illegals won’t vote in huge numbers for Obama again?

Furthermore, has any one checked to see how many dead people haven’t bothered to register? That’s a huge constituency for the democrats, and they always turn out, faithfully, for democrats.

How about some perspective...

Obama lost whites to John McCain by 12 points in 2008, but won Latinos by 36 points and blacks by an overwhelming 91 points.

Bush lost blacks by an overwhelming 90 points in 2000 so Obama only picked up 1 point over Gore.

Bush did better with Latinos than "Juan" McCain, losing Latinos by only 27 points to Al Gore. Bush made up ground in 2004 and only lost them to Kerry by 9 points. W only lost blacks by 88 points.

Bush lost the Hispanic vote by only 9 points to Jean-Francois Kerry? Maybe Mexican-Americans remembered the French invasion of Mexico.

Dead voters will make up the slack, just as they always do.

I read somewhere on FR that their grandparents did not vote for the RAT party until after they died.

That means fewer Republican Hispanic votes. Registered or not, dead or alive, legal or illegal, it can only increase the democrat votes.

Au contraire.

The longer a Hispanic has resided in the USA, the more likely they are to vote Republican.

The Hispanics who are forced to move in a shrinking economy are the illegals and the less established.

I'd wager that 80% of the shortfall in Hispanic registrations were Democrat voters.

I have a friend whose father has been gone for 15 years but still votes in every election. My friend lives in the same house and when he goes to vote he sees the registry that shows his dad has already been in and voted.

He has complained, but it never changes.

many of them will not be registered to vote on Election Day. Hence the Dim's push for "same day registration" laws.
