If youd really like to depress yourself some evening, watch Doomsday Preppers on the National Geographic Channel. The show details the plans of normal, well adjusted people to cope with the aftermath of fiscal collapse, nuclear holocaust, the eruption of Yellowstone, solar flares, and so on.
The New York Times noted with outrage that many of these people were accumulating guns and ammunition in order to defend their 1,500 pounds of MREs and dried brown rice, but stockpiling guns is fine with me. My concern is that most of them seem pretty inexpert with guns. One prepper was counting on a Ruger Number One single-shot which, despite its many splendid qualities, is not what youd pick to blast the mob at your door. Another managed to shoot off several fingers during a practice session. Yet a third, a resident of the Oligarchy of Bloomberg, took lessons in knife fighting because he was unable to get a gun, ignoring the fact that everyone in the Oligarchy of Bloomberg who wants a gun has one, or several, and when the pistol-waving mob comes to this fellows apartment I dont think that he and his knife will last long.

Thank you for your thorough and thought provoking answers. You really added something to the thread.
This has been a heated discussion among Evangelical Christians lately. What is unclear is how bad things are going to get before the Rapture and how long will it last. The Tribulation will bring more horror, violence, despair and destruction than man has ever seen. Just looking at history and the misery that has already happened in the past, one could see preparing for a terrible future even if it lasts a relatively short time. There is a wide range of opinions among Evangelicals - from preparing for a two or three week crisis due to extreme weather all the way to having a five year supply of food, water, meds, guns, ammo, etc. The struggle many Evangelicals have is spending tens of thousands of dollars on preps that could be given to the church or to charities. I don’t have the answer, but I can tell you that not all Evangelicals are critical of preppers and I can assure that no true Christian wishes God’s wrath on anyone. Maranatha.
I remember that episode and as I recall, a large crowd came to visit.
“Ive run into you before.”
I really don’t think you’ve ever posting anything that I have disagreed with, maybe so, maybe not. Please spend the rest of your day looking and please post. If you need me to vent your anger, then fire away.
All I’m saying is that ANY father that would throw their own kids to the wolves during a time of national crisis is less than a sliver of a man.
Any one of my kids and/or their families could show up on my doorstep wearing 0bama T-shirts and they’re gonna get fed. They’ll hear plenty of $hit from dad about their attire, but they damn sure won’t go away hungry and they’ll have a place to stay until things cool down.
Who says its the Rapture? No one knows when it will come only the Father.
Yet the History of Man of man is full of direr times which were cause by nature or man himself. Man has proven repeatedly that they can well muck things up to a point were their fellows cry out for God to end it all and relieve them of their misery.
You can’t escapes God’s Armageddon but you should do what you can to provide for your family and get them through natural or man made ones.
How many Jews setting in Cattle cars on their way to Death camps wished they had heeded the warning signs better?
A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. Proverbs 22:3
The bible tells us also that:
In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has. Proverbs 21:20
This reminds me of one of my favorite jokes:
A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says “get in, get in!” The religous man replies, “ no I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle.”
Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in god and god will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again cause “God will grant him a miracle.”
With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to Peter, I thought God would grand me a miracle and I have been let down.” St. Peter chuckles and responds, “I don’t know what you’re complaining about, we sent you three boats and a helicopter.”
Maybe some need to read The Parable Ten Virgins: What It Means to Be Ready (Matthew 25:1-13)
Or just read 1 Timothy 5:8: But if any provideth not for his own, and specially his own household, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
These are my last words to you on this thread, asshat. Read the story of the prodigal son. Did the father even dump the son with plenty of money, anticipating the son would squander it? Yes. There comes a time when the children MUST go out on their own. That doesn’t mean the father doesn’t love the son, he just realizes experience teaches what the son refused to take from his father. The daughter being a liberal has a mental disease. Perhaps you have the same disease and want to justify it in your own mind. Who knows. I just don’t think you’re worth responding to further since it appears your flailing ego needs to snarl. Have Nice Day
I think some serious research into conditions during WWII on the American “homefront” is in order for those of us who treasure liberty.
For most, WWII is about Pearl Harbor, D-Day, & Hiroshima. On the homefront, they know about Japanese internment, gasoline rationing, & Rosie the Riveter. That’s all.
But domestic surveillance on citizens was more than finding out who was spying for the Nazis & the Japs. Being overheard saying the wrong thing and suffering bad consequences didn’t just happen under the Gestapo, NKVD, or Kempetai.
Glenn Beck has talked about citizens ratted out & arrested during the First World War for things that had nothing to do with enemy spies.
Just what was the government going to do with those homecanned foodstuffs, anyway? Destroyed them as a warning to others, I’ll guess.
Anyway, I don’t do prepper stuff and all my guns were lost in a mysterious boating accident. For the record.
We may not know the hour or the day,but we will know the season. And the signs of His return are becoming more frequent every day. The Church will not see God’s wrath or what you are calling Armegeddon. It is that time between now and the Rapture or the beginning of the Great Tribulation that I was addressing. Everyone has to decide in their own mind how much of their resources to dedicate to prepping. It’s up to you to decide whether we will go thru another Depression or Zombie Apocalypse or TEOTWAWKI.
Nobody asked you to respond to my original post and yet you jump in and call me an “agitator” because I wouldn’t throw my kids to the Zombies?
I can see where it would be embarrassing to be identified as one who would abandon their own children, but you’re taking this to the extreme.
You are, however, making a wise choice by surrendering and I do hope you keep your promise to curtail any further responses.
So, looks like I’m in the teeny minority when it comes to assisting others too stupid or lazy to prep. How many of you have children that whatever mom and dad say they will do the direct opposite, each and every time? That’s my cross to bear. Just as I choose how mto prep and how much.
I'm not sure how that will happen unless they come with her. They aren't welcome and there will be no doubt in anybody's minds about that. If anybody wants to force the issue, it will get ugly fast and most Liberals aren't into "ugly" if it means them on the receiving end.
In a SHTF scenario, power and cell phones will be down and there will be little communication or free movement. She will have no transportation available anyhow and it's a bit of a walk to town much less to any "friends". My rules also include remaining in place and not wandering around making yourself a target of opportunity. Prepare for a long stay, plenty of guard duty, hard work, diet discipline, and no iPods or TV.
It's the Obama "social justice" & "wealth redistribution" mentality.
It's just not fair for you to have more than someone else.
The fact you worked hard, planned, set priorities, did without luxuries to obtain necessities is irrelevant.
Why spend tens of thousands of dollars on prepping (saving) for retirement when that money could be given to the church or to charities?
Why buy insurance? I guess those that do, must not have strong faith? In fact I wonder how many churches themselves carry property insurance? Those churches must be weak in their faith.
Starting that group was one of the best things I ever did - I've met some of the finest people of my life as part of all this, and our participants have begun to network nicely amongst themselves.
Our participants have included members of a true cross-section of society - SWAT team members, doctors, lawyers, farmers, young couples, etc - and true friendships have been formed.
Currently I'm trying to scrape together the funds to join up with a couple of other families in developing some rural land in N. Florida where, even if the world doesn't collapse, we'll have a heck of a nice little hunting camp. I've also started a little machinist shop with one of my prepper friends, and would really love to start some sort of country feed store (which I believe is an excellent preparedness measure).
And, BTW, there's a lot less "nuttiness" in our group than you'll encounter in most walks of life.
In the sage words of that imminent Philospher, Lazamataz, ‘Bite me, troll.’

Day one - “Ok, the power is out. Stuff happens.”
Day three - “Dang, the water and gas are out. This ain’t good.”
Day five - “I wish we had bought a battery powered radio - I have no idea how long this will last.” Or, “This radio must be busted - not even AM gets a signal.”
About day seven - “There are hordes of people approaching...”
